Re: Finally some pics of my coupe w/ the Nismo Spo

I agree that "rice" is thrown at pretty much any body modification, but by the accepted definition of "rice" (mods that make the car look faster but not go faster), pretty much any spoiler modification is ricey. Except under very rare conditions, spoilers make your car slower, not faster. They add weight and create drag. Spoilers belong on race cars that are very lightweight and are driven at extremely high speeds. The G is not light. It's towards the heavy end of the sports car spectrum. It also needs to be driven way the hell above the speed limit before the downforce benefits kick in (assuming it's even tuned and installed properly), and then taken into a turn. Not a whole lot of opportunities to take turns at 110 mph on public roads. Although at least it's not completely out of place on a G because it has RWD. What all those mid-level, FWD sedans are doing with big, Supra-like spoilers is beyond me.

Now, I don't think the guy did a bad job installing his spoiler. I'm sure that's the best that spoiler will ever look. But at the end of the day, he DID put that spoiler on for looks, not speed. That's a spoiler styled to get noticed. I doubt he took his G to a wind tunnel, analyzed the drag coefficient, and said, "the performance of this stock spoiler needs to be improved upon."

So by definition, it's fair to call the Nismo spoiler "ricey," although personally I'd go more with "gaudy." I do think "ricey" should be reserved for the extremely bad taste mods. On the other hand, it's not like the people crying "rice" don't care about their car's looks. We could have bought uglier cars that go faster. If my car came with that spoiler and, magically, it did improve performance at legal speeds, I'd still yank the thing off. But that wouldn't be ricey because I'd be making my car look LESS like a race car.

Anyway, this is a long way to go to basically argue semantics. Bottom line is that the spoiler is a cosmetic mod. It's fair to critique it the same way it's fair to make fun of 80's hair bands. Alot of people think Bon Jovi kicks ***. They're allowed to have their opinion, however profoundly wrong.

What I DO think is rice is your GT-R emblem on the sides of your car. Come on man, whats up with that? You drive an AUTO g35, and you call your car a gt-R?

I do kinda like the look of the badges, though I wouldn't want them. It's just the GT-R part that's inappropriate. A stylized "G" might be better, similar to how the 350Z has it's "Z" logo. Some would still dislike that, but it wouldn't be any more ricey than monogramed trunk mats.

But the combination of the wing, badge, and Injen sticker does seem to be pushing in the "look, it's a wicked fast race car!" direction...

Man, I can't get away with making fun of Honda Civics *or* Bon Jovi? How about Saddam Hussein? Can we agree he sucks? Worked for Dubya's puppet masters, it did.

Aww, crap... just ignore that last part. Saddam bad!!

Re: Finally some pics of my coupe w/ the Nismo Spo

hmm.. When you say fast how fast are we talking about? I only push my car 140mph on our dead freeway with the boy's (my friends in there WRX's and Lancer Evolution's) when we do freeway runs. Some reason I think I might need some type of downforce. I don't want to get one of those monstor universal wing's. Would this wing do it? I was looking at that other lip from some other kid and I don't think performance wise would make a difference. Looks all show and less go from here; however, this spoiler he got I bet would cause a better downforce @ 140 to 150mph... Sure it's got to look good, but need to help out some how ;-)

Now if it was on a honduh civic or something I'd say it's all show and no go since I don't think people be taking there honduh's 140+mph... Me on the other hand might have a need for it since I do freeway runs probably 3 times a week. Right now I don't have any spoiler but so far this spoiler looks like it will come in handy though.

I bet if this spoiler was in place of the stock spoiler in the aero kit none of u all who have it would be complaining ;-)

I wonder if Bon Jovi will ever pick up one of this bad boys, but then again I guess his Ferrari's and Lambo's are keeping his satisfied...lol

Hey don't worry about what people say, as long as you like it, for the people who doesn't like it just don't get it. But one thing though your Injen intake is not a Race Division it's a CAI. FYI Congrad on the new wing!

Re: Finally some pics of my coupe w/ the Nismo Spoiler

hmm I saw an adjustable aluminum spoiler on ebay when I did a "G35" search.

sorry but I'll have to say I rather have no spoiler then a nismo or adjustable one. I'm working with some people to design a differrent smooth thruster style spoiler to replace my stock. Something that goes more with the lines of the car and doesn't stick so far out on the sides.

the spoiler looks awesome when its connected to the full kit, its those rediculous badges on the side.

Outstanding. It definitely beats the factory. That's my opinion because it boils down to taste. I think it fits the car well and brings it out. thanks for the pics it was definitely helpful. I am considering this addition. Did you post how you hooked your DVD up to your nav? That is sweet. How many hours for the install?
