My real experience was the exact opposite of what you described. I don't need a video to tell me otherwise. I don't know what to tell you other than that S2000 was either unusually strong, or that G35 was unusually weak, or the dude just didn't shift/drive well.

And what's with this "out of VTEC" crap? VTEC is nothing more than Honda's brand name for their variable valve timing, which the G35 also has. Nothing more, nothing less. VTEC is always there, changing the valve timing based mostly on engine RPM and load. There's no such thing as being in of or out of VTEC. I realize the variable valve timing changes the intake sound noticeably at higher RPM's, particularly on Honda 4 bangers, but that's because the valve lift and duration changes.

It's more accurate to say he was out of his peak RPM range. He was never out of VTEC, unless it broke.

VTEC works differently than the variable valve timing on the G35 (and most other cars with it too). VTEC works much the same as having two seperate camshafts, each working at different RPM ranges. Once you cross the designated RPM, the 'cams' shift and you get an instant kick of power. If you've ever driven a VTEC car, you can definatly feel the boost in power once yo uget into the 'VTEC range'. Wit hteh variable valve timing on the G35, the timing os constantly changing for each RPM, making the benefits basically transparent.

I bought tons of BMI DVD,they ever tested G,Z and S2000 in Japanese version. The best record for S2000 was 14.12,13.8*(can not remember the last digit exactly)for 350Z and 14.1*-14.53(14.53 is the worst record)for G35 coupe. They are pretty even on straight line, but I think S2000 has more agility than others on circuit. In the clip, there is camera guy,so 1550KG+about 70KG, that is little trouble for accelaration. I have ever bit a modified s2000 by more than 3 car length on freeway. That s2000 got aftermarket exhaust, body kit,gt wing and low down springs, which I could know from exterio. I was running with NISMO exhaust and ground kit in my 04 6MT coupe at that time

This post just show's you know absolutly nothing about honda's, or VTEC for that matter! It's nothing like the G35's variable valve timing, which is alway's on...at 5850 rpm's on the S2000 it changes from just another 4 cyl 2.0L motor, to a bad *** V6-V8 killing machine! There's an instant jump in Hp by like 40 whp (from like 5800-6000)...The car just put's you in your seat, much harder then it did a 1,000 rpm's earlier when you were (and yes you can say) "OUT OF VTEC" Without VTEC the S2000 would be just as fast as an LS integra! Maybe you shouldn't speak when you don't know real fact's about Honda's.

This is also why you may have beaten a few S2000's in your G...This is what we mean when we say for a G35 to beat an S2000 (stock vs. Stock) the S2000 driver doesn't know how to drive! (when racing) If the S2000 fall's out of VTEC for more then a second, the car isan't being properly driven...without VTEC an S2000 can loose to a mini van. This is why you see kill stories from G35 driver's/RSX-S driver's/SRT-4 driver's/350Z driver's/Mustang GT driver's/ etc...When properly driven, the S2000 is faster and has beaten all of these car's many many time's. Now don't get me wrong, If the driver was out of VTEC and you won, it's his fault, and he deserves to lose, and by no mean's am I taking credit away from your victory...however if the car was driven by a good driver, the outcome "should've" been different. But on the street's anything can happen, and Im not doubting your S2000 kill's 1 bit..but with equil driver's, the S2000 is faster.

It's a better race between the 350Z and S2000, rather the the G35. But who care's, your still driving with actual "feature's", rather then a cockpit with just a motor!

You guys have to consider that the videotaped race wasn't done properly and doesn't prove anything. I'm not discounting the S2000's ability (I think it's a driver's race), but merely questioning the video. The S2000 was modded and it doesn't matter how much gain it provides...it's still modded. 5rwhp can have more impact on a 2800 lb car than a 3400 lb car. Secondly, you put the cameraman in the G35. If you wanted a more fair race, then you should've raced a similarly modded G35 and switched the cameraman to the S2000 between races. Maybe the S2000 is faster period, but my experiences have been quite different. All the video proves is a S2000 with intake and exhaust can pull on a stock G35 with a passenger. That doesn't seem like a fair race to me and that's why most here have discounted it. The video looks like the S2000 driver wanted to see how effective his mods are against a stock G35. Also, I'm not hatin on the G35 driver, but why on earth would he start a race at 60 mph, which translates to the very bottom of third gear? When the race started at 65mph, the G35 did better at 65-70 mph roll (see race that ended with "hmmm, a little closer"). Why did the G35 driver stop when he was in the lead at that point? Because he was winning? It looks weird and staged. I'm modded and would be happy to run a similarly modded S2000. Also, the S2000 sounds like it has cats too.

Right on Binpimpin!! I believe it is a hydrolic pin that engages a secondary set of lobes on the camshaft that gives it a more aggressive cam profile. This is what allows it to keep making power till what used to be 9k rpm. When the first cam profile starts to lose steam, the second set kicks in which gives it a new life. That's where you want to be to keep that bad boy going.. The problem is, you have to know your car well and to use that gear box (which i may add was a godly gearbox). If you snuck up on one, and he didnt know it, you would have caught him off guard and it takes a few to downshift and revmatch to a gear that will take him at or above 6k rpms which is where the power bad starts. The car was geared to always be at the bottom of vtec land if you shifted at redline.. and just like the G it would be at the bottom of 3rd which would be 6krpms at about 62mph. That's what it was on my 00 s2k at least.. Great car, but I love my seat warmers now..

We raced a stock '04 g35 and stock '02 s2k this weekend...s2k won every time. It was amazing!

EDIT: Both were manual.

Ok, 60 was just the predetermined speed we decided to go from, the race wasen't "staged"! Just like the G35, 60mph is a HORRIBLE spot for an s2000 to race from!! So it evened out (2nd end's at like 68 in the S2k, and he was in 3rd) so if anything the s2000 was at more of a "disadvantage" then the G35!! And also "just so you know" The one time the race started at 65 and the G stayed infront throughout, was because the G35 got a huge jump!! If you can't see/hear that in the video you shouldn't be racing much of anything, especially since your so big on being "fair"!! Honestly I could give too shyt's what you think of the video, or how you "question" how proper or fairly it was done...I didn't make this to make you happy...I made it to give a fair and equil comparison between the 2 car's performance, wheather or not the S2000 had I/E is irrelevant, since those mod's do next to NOTHING for the S2000 (some actually lose HP from certain exhaust system's) Im sorry, but if the S2000 winning from 0mph, 10mph, 20mph, 40mph, and 60mph isan't enough evidence for you to believe the S2K is faster, then you my friend need to open your eye's a bit wider!

Well said, Binpimpin77. Z06ified has no idea what he is talking about.

How exactly is intake/exhaust/w/o passenger fair? The S2k would most likely still win if it was a "fair" race, but it would've been closer than it was in the video.

^ i agree....the passenger should have been with the S2000. It was commen sence the S2000 would win......I/E, and wheighs less than a stock G....plus i think that G was auto.

P.S. i would love to see a STOCK '05 G Vs STOCK '05 S2000
