Need Advice.....Please Advise!!!!!

Hi guys,

Here is my dilema. I have a 05 G35C. I had the clear bra installed at the dealer. Over the last couple of months it has lifted in a couple spots so I brought it back in to get it fixed. They informed my fiance that when they removed the film in the front it ripped off some of the paint.

Quick and to the point. Should they replace the whole front section with a new from the factory painted piece, or is a re-paint acceptable.

I have always been under the impression that a repaint was never as good as a factory job......

Advice needed Please.

Thanks,

This is indeed a dilemma. If you let them paint, no matter how good the job is, when you go to sell the car, it'll be very easy to detect the paint job. Now here is the REAL problem: You will need to prove to your future buyer that the repaint was indeed due to a bad clear bra removal job and not because of an ACCIDENT!, it the car is fairly new, I would ask them for a whole new part painted from scratch as there shouldn't be a significant paint difference between the new part and the rest of the car (paint is still fresh and hasn't faded).

I think the above route would be a better one as oppose to repainting just that little area ending up with a half a$$ed job.

On the other hand, if the area to be fixed is fairly small they may not need to blend other parts of the car.

Good luck.

I'm sure the dealership, particulary if asked in advance, will have the work order or Work State, ment reflect the fact that is to repair paint damage incidental to replacing the clear bra.

I would complain to the dealership and try to get compensated for the mishap....like, yes, paint the hood and give me something like: lifetime oil changes, or free extended warranty...something they have the power to do....as for requesting a new hood, even if they agree to that, I'm sure all they will do is get a new hood from their parts dept. and paint it....either way, they may have to blend the fenders which involves a removing a bunch of parts (lamps, bumper, rocker mldgs, etc.)...good luck and let us know what happens...

the factory paint isn't that strong in the first place, so a repaint should do the job
as long as they can perfectly match the color.

The aftermarket paint is very soft so they need to be VERY CAREFUL when they
apply a new clearbra.

Even with a work order that states the reason for the repaint, it still doesn't prove that he theoretically was not involved in accident at a later time. In other words, he can prove that the dealership painted it due to a bad bra job, but it means Jack when it comes to proving that that was the ONE AND ONLY time that part was painted.
