Putting the G on a diet
#19
If you are that serious about performance, YOU GOT THE WRONG CAR!! There is a lighter version of this car called 350z, and there also are better performing and lighter cars for the money. What good is it if you bought the G35 and didn't enjoy the luxury features it offers?
Well, here is a quick solution: Sell your car and buy a 350Z if you're that serious about racing.
If you don't want to give up any features, then there aren't many places that you can lose weight. I'd imagine it would be very hard to lose 100lbs if you didn't want to give up anything.
I bought this car to enjoy the features that if offers AND its performance at the same time... even if I am compromising the latter a bit. so I don't really care about the weight

I weigh 260lbs.....if i loose 40lbs....I won't have to lose the spare tire in the trunk.....funny thing is....I had a 50 pound sub and amp....a spare tire...a dead battery in the trunk....a small suitcase full of clothes...my 260lb self the same day I walked away from a new m3 convertible...and a 350z....I think the driver skill...and individual engine condition/tune have alot to do with it......another clue is our motors respond well to higher octane ie 94 or higher....its doubtful that they make the claimed horses on 91 octane.(just my .02)

An easy way to reduce some weight is to gut the trunk and get a lighter battery. It doesn't make sense to get a G35 and gut the interior. The interior is what you paid for otherwise you're better off in a 350Z. Other more expensive ways to lighten the car are wheels and CF parts. Best fix though is get a SC or turbo.

1. Rule of thumb is 100 lbs =.1 in the quarter mile not .2
2. Reduce the unsprung weight as much as possible.
3. Remove all unnecessary equipment
But those things said, I am of the opinion that the G is a great Daily Driver "Not a good Race Car" I would leave the G stock and just buy a car and make it into a "Race Car" and have fun with it.

Again, thanks for all the input folks.
I did buy the G to be the best alternative to the higher priced E46 M3. I come from the BMW world (have owned 2 E36 M3's) and couldn't quite afford the E46. I figured at 300HP, this would be a great alternative and the updated 2005 Sport Tuned suspension, and drop dead gorgeous looks of the G made it an easy choice.
Everyone has their own reasons for making purchases, so I don't want to hear that I bought the wrong car if I am looking for performance. This is a performance car inspired from the 2-seat 350Z. I wanted 4 seats. I am just trying to figure out where all the weight is coming from. BMW's use heavy leather materials throughout the interior of the car, superb sound deadening throughout the car as well, and manages to weigh in under the heavily plastic interior of the G.
Thank you all for your comments and suggestions, I appreciate the positive feedback.

GET NOS.
