Rear tire wear

This has probably been covered before, but I have only had the car a few months.

I noticed the rear tires are wearing out on the inside. I understand the coupes have some camber on the rear wheels, but I only have 6500 miles on it and the wear is definitely noticeable. I took it to the dealer and he said they all do this - expect about 10000 to 15000 miles on rear tires. Now, this seems like an issue to me. I then went to get the tires swapped to even out the wear, and the guy there said he get g's and z's in there all the time with this issue. He also mentioned he heard there might be a class-action lawsuit going on for this.

Anyone have any more information about this?

I believe the class-action is for feathering on the front two tires for the Z only. They have it bad due to their suspension geometry...the G doesn't suffer because its slightly different (with larger wheelbase and slight other tweaks). This topic has been discussed before and most have learned to live with the fact the tires only last about 15k.

our rims are not wide enough for the 245/45/18 in the rear, that is what causes the wear down the center, some say it is caused by over inflation but i keep mine at 30psi and they still wear down the middle.

I don't believe the above is true. I have the 17" rims and my rear tires are wearing faster in the center as well.

My rears were changed at ~22K miles.

My dealer told me it was normal as well.

you guys should get your alignments checked. there are so many potholes and bumps to knock your alignment out. the feathering is for the Z only. How wide are the stock rims?

Hey guys I have a 04 coupe w/18's and I have the feathering problem. I know this for sure my sister has a 04 350z roadster and our tires look exactly the same. Only difference is it took about 20,000 miles for me to notice it took her about 10,000. It does affect some G's

So I got about 20k+ on my front tires. And I'm starting to notice some weird noises. When I look at the tires they are feathering. What does the feathering of tires effect? Does it make the tires emit funny noises that are annoying?

Are you serious? You have 20k out of your Michelin Pilot Sports and you are complaining? If you look at the claimed average life of Pilot Sports, they are ONLY good for around 20k (yes, even with calm driving habits). If your sister notices her tires gone at 10k, its one thing...if you notice your tires gone at 20k, you are lucky IMO.

20k is pretty good for high performance tires... look at the treadwear rating, anything the in the 200's isn't going to last too long.

AntRock - aren't those Bridgestone S03's? how was the grip? how many miles on that pair? i'm leaning toward a set of those when i kill my pilots.

with my pilot sports I only got 7k miles on them from bad camber wear. I just bought the SPC camber kit so hopefully that will put the camber back in to place.
