Thick black exhaust stains

It seems that my exhaust tips have a lot thicker exhaust stains lately. Any idea why this could be happening? I have only added the spacer lately.

Did you reset the ECU after you added the Spacer? It sounds like you are running rich due to the ECU trying to adjust the mixture based on your old data instead of the new, higher volume of air coming in. Disclaimer...I could very well be completely wrong.

Thanks - I didn't reset. Is running rich damaging?

My engine is stock and I've always noticed more soot on the exhaust tips than on any other car I've owned.

Based entirely on my knowledge of older cars (I currently drive an "88 300zx until my 05 6MTC comes in from Japan), I would say the worst that could happen by running rich is that your cats have to work a little harder and your o2 sensor could get fouled (well, that and you burn alot more gas). Just unhook the battery for a minute or two and the ecu should reset.
