You thought you bought a 280hp G35c? Read on.

You thought you bought a 280 hp G35 Sports Coupe. Well read on. Sport Compact Car in their June 2003 issue reports on their Road Test of the G35c. They beg to differ regarding the hp. On page 248 they went on to say: "Our Dynojet said different. Our G tester spun the rollers with 242 hp at 6250 rpm and 230 lb-ft of torque at 4600 rpm."

That's a full 38 hp less than I thought I was getting.

Isnt that Figure to the Wheel and not to the Flywheel like the 280 is measured at?

Sounds about right after you figure in 15 to 20% driveline losses.
The advertised "280" hp and "270" Ft Lbs. is at the crank, bro, not the rear wheels. "242" and "230" is cool.....

That 242 HP is probably to the wheels.

Here's a link to Sport Compact Car magazine that tested the 350Z and said that it got 244HP to the wheels with 91 octane fuel and got up to 249HP on 100 octane fuel.

Typical industry "fudge factor." Too bad that we have to rely on the wheels and tires to move the vehicle forward. :-)

Hahahaha, oh man, haha. *wipes tear off of cheek*

Thanks for the laugh I seriously hadn't had one of these kinds of laughs in a while.

Not to make fun of you (thats what the above was for), but your nickname sure suits your knowledge.

Almost all of the hp/tq numbers that Sport Compact Car prints in the articles are to the wheels (because thats the only place it counts), well, unless you were an avid reader/subscriber you probably wouldn't know that. Or you might know that if you would have read the little specs sidebar on page 250. Quote: "Claimed Crank HP = 270" "Measured wheel HP = 242"

But still, thats common knowledge among "enthusiasts." You'll learn.

I don't think I need to go into the "crank vs wheel" hp discussion as it is all over the internet. Well, crank is what the engine is making, wheel is what you get after drivetrain loss (gotta move more gears and gadgets). Let me just put it this way, "Crank is for marketing, wheel is for moving."

Wow! With the first 6-speed automatic coupe, you must be the envy of all those guys that got the automatic, yet only got 5 gears!

um no...no fudge factor here...im sure it makes more than 280 at the crank and they most likely publish lower hp numbers for insurance reason

all cars publish they're crank hp cause its obviously higher and its to "woo" the consumer...but like someone said if your a real enthusiast you know that "wheel" hp is the true rating to go by...the only company i know of that actually publishes their "wheel" hp is MINI...the Cooper S is published at 163hp and SCC dyno'd it at 166hp at the wheels

It's kind of like Stereo manufactures quoting their "Peak" power ratings instead of their "Continuous" power. Looks more impressive, and its not really a lie.

Ok guys, take it easy on him. He made a mistake, we all have. I don't think any of us here know everything. That's why we are here. I like to think of this site as a builder of the utlimate G35 enthusiast. Sorry KID sometimes people get annoyed here when they see a post making a point when all the facts have not been taken into considration. Just do your homework first before you post next time and people won't be so anxious to flame you. Let the G35 Zen flow. Peace.
