VSD weirdness
VSD weirdness
On my former BMW, pressing the VSD (equiv) button caused the traction to come offline but to retain yaw. The same with my mercedes. The Bimmer, on the other hand - you hold that VSD button down for 5 seconds and it shut of ALL traction, yaw etc, making it a nice manual track car.
So I thunk, what if? And I held the G's button down for a 10 count. Th elight 'VSD OFF' came on, 1 2 .. 9 10 and the light went off. no drama.
Subsequent pushes to the VSD on/off button didn't do anything. What's the deal with this? I had to power cycle the engine before it worked again. Did I just stumble on somwthing useful?
Now onto the mercedes... it had a dyno mode hidden in the ECU. In order to access it, you had to hold the odometer recet button down for 20 seconds while turning the key to ACC or something along those lines. After that, a menu came up on the on screen display in the dash gauges. It allowed you to read voltages, volumes of oil etc and to turn on dyno mode - which is all safeties (except ABS) off line.
Anyone want to spend some time holding random buttons

quick question, did you got out and test it after you held the VDC to see if the car acted normal or became something different? i'll try it to see what happens as well.
I think there was a page on Edmunds.com that tells us how to turn it off completely... I'm gonna go check.
Edit: Errr... might have been Car&Driver or Road&Track... I'll be back in few after some more searching.

damn it. Can't find it. I remember seeing it though, and it says something like turn the key to start position but don't start the engine and press VDC off or something like that... I might be wrong, though, so don't quote me on that.
