Don't risk scratches or swirls. Get microfiber products for washing, drying, applying and buffing at properautocare.com

Just want to add that all mircofiber isn't the same. Becareful b/c it will scratch just as easy! The key to anything is keep it clean and not to use lots of pressure when you don't need to!

I'm surprised this has not been mentioned yet, and is a very important tip.

Do not use fabric softener when washing your towels (cotton or microfiber), and only use liquid detergent. The fab softener actually has fibers that will scratch your clearcoat, and the powder detergent may not have completely dissolved and could also scratch.

I am using the Costco microfiber towels and they work fine, but they are small so you have to use about 6 of them to dry off your car. I also bought a big pack of cotton terry towels from Costco but they feel very rough and thin. I tried them on the wheels but they did not absorb very much and left some lint. Maybe I should wash and try again.

BTW, in case you didn't know, there is a detailing forum on this site, where you can find out a ton more info.

I use the Big Blue towel from properautocare.com and it is the only thing you need to dry your car. After rinsing take the nozzle off and hit the car with smooth water so it sheets off the car then dry with Big Blue. No scrathes and I have Laser Red. By the way the paint is junk!!!!!

The one detailer I talked to about washing/drying recommended cloth diapers that sell in bulk at like places like Kmart. Personally I've never been able to avoid scratches/swirls and haven't tried the cloth diaper thing yet, but I might just have to so I can really find out whats going on.

I love using the big blue towels, but they're damn expensive.

The Big Blue Drying Towel II costs $25 regularly, but is on sale at properautocare for $19. It's great.

If you wash them first, that should eliminate any lint issues and they will absorb better. Also, be sure to wash them separate from any other cotton type towels and don't use bleach or fabric softener.
