About 2 seconds before I completely pull into my garage, my headlights come on because my garage is "dark enough." Is this bad for my headlights because they come on long enough for me to put the car in park and turn it off, and however long they stay on after the car is locked.

Is this bad? Any solutions besides manually turning the **** off every time I pull into my garage?

That is normal, mine does thew same thing when I pull into the garage. They stay on for approx. 1 minute then shut off. If you do not want this to happen, take your light switch out of "auto"

 

Mine does same if I forget to shut off the auto. I don't like the HID's coming on for such a short time, so I usually remember to shut it off first.

Sad thing about it is you still have to move the switch through the Auto position to get to manual and for a moment the headlights flash on. WTF were they thinking when they came up with that???

 

why does it matter? why would it be bad on the xenons?

 

I hate that too.... so i dont use the auto feature anymore.... I want to save the bulb from wear and tear

 

It say's right in the manual it's bad to flip on the HID's for a only a very short period. So Infiniti putting the AUTO setting inbetween the ON and OFF settings was pretty annoying.

How about after ON??? Makes sense to me...

 

yup, agreed

simple solution: dont use auto mode, turn the ignition off before switching your lights off. auto mode will not turn the lights on with the ignition off ...

 

Would it be easier if they did the setting something like this?

I guess that is just too difficult....

 

man, you guys worry about some small stuff. we drop in a TT without minding that we are cutting engine life in half, but then worry about having to replace our bulbs a little more often? I love my auto headlights, they are the heat.

bmw is like that, when i first got the g35 i was like this is pretty stupid, also if it's in auto and you pass through a tunnel for like 5 secs your light will come on too... bmw doesnt do that.

Delivery date 12/26/02, current mileage 61,000 miles, light mode: auto. Never changed out my Xenons and they come on everytime I pull into my garage. My driver side front amber light went out though.

 

Does anyone actually know if additional on/off cycles significantly reduces the life of the HIDs?

 

It doesn't matter with the bulbs, but it is a killer on the ballasts!
