It's possible this guy didn't have a turbo at all. Fake BOV's have become pretty popular. It's some sort of whistle/noise maker that makes the sound a real BOV makes when you rev the engine. Of course it has no performance benefit. It's just so people think you have a turbo.

im gunna have to go with JDM on this one.

If the guy's got a turbo, chances are he knows what he's doing, I wouldn't call it rice just because its cheap car to start with. My definition of rice is when someone try's to show something off that they dont have. Example, and honda civic or saturn ION with a huge muffler, or a crown vic without a cat

Really? I'd have to say my definition of rice is someone who modifies cheap Japanese cars, regardless of what they put into it or get out of it.

And people who call the Infiniti G35 a Nissan Skyline 350GT or any variation thereof in North America hehehehehe.........

My definition of ricer is anyone who puts rice in his mouth. In that case I am a ricer as well.

Cheap is relative.. Someone who drives a 70k car would call our cars cheap.. Kind of ignorant to look down on other cars just because they aren't as expensive as the one you drive.. You sound like a lot of BMW drivers I know.. It's only rice if its all show and no go... My 2 cents... I totally respect the guys who modify their cars and know what they are doing..

oh and by the way, the engines on the GSX and the EVO are basically the same. Different turbos though, but you can see that the GSX has a lot of potential. I believe that the engine codes are the same as well...

Not to insult anyone's intelligence, but you guys do know that the term "Rice" is a shorten form of the word "Rice Burner" which was a popular term used in the US in the 80's and early 90's when the US car market was getting heavy competition from the Japanese market. So all cars from Japan were tagged "Rice Burners" as a derogatory insult towards Japan (Japanese people and their association with rice!). So...every car with a huge wing, BOV, Turbo Timer, Graphics is not a rice burner. That word is getting so played out. If you think about it... Infiniti is made in Japan and so is Mitsubuishi...so they both come from the same origin...and a patriotic person who loves American cars may deem both of them "Rice Burners"

You need to pull your head out of you midwestern university a$$ my friend,
there are plenty of less expensive platforms, that with the right mods that will turn your G35, and mine, into piles of steaming rice in a road race.

hmmm...quite true, though I seem to recall hearing that the term "rice burner" or "rice rocket" was used even before that to describe the flood of cheap japanese motorcycles that hit our shores in the 70's.

I'm pretty sure you're correct Gee3Five. Alot of people who read these car enthusiast forums often repeat what they read and often sound pretty foolish targeting other car enthusiasts for having different tastes in mods and designs. It gets so annoying after you heard certain terms a few thousand times!

How do you figure. I had a 2nd Gen MR2 that put out 260 HP to the wheels and ran low 13's high 12s.. I wouldn't be happy as hell to beat you. I would beat you knowing i could easily do so.

Or... it's probably more possible that he just had a turbo...

yes.. i can see how ridiculous some of this is getting...

i can't believe some of you would look down on somebody just because theyre car isn't worth as much as yorus.. even if it could smoke the sht out of your car..
and just because a car costs less than yours its a "crappy" car even though with 1500 dollars in mods it can run 12's ALL day..

So some guy who runs 9's in his 1990 CRX with a stripped bare interior and big *** drag radials up front and complete custom roll bar is rice???

I can't believe some people actually think they are better than other people just becuase of the car they drive.. god that is ridiculous..

I totally agree with you. I see a pecking order here. Similar to how M3 owners talk trash about the G35. Everyone just needs to chill and thank GOD or whomever you pray to at night that you can afford something nice!

Wow... I thought I heard it all but this guy takes the pompous cake... first of all you have no right to be degrading or judging somebody by the car they drive. Which will probably smoke yours if you knew anything about cars in the first place.. I mean come on, you don't even know what a blow off valve sounds like and for you to be judging someone else on what you perceive to be of value, is a lil narrow in the up stairs department in my opinion..... Also you must be a rice as well, as your so called demeaning definition of rice is..... YOUR CAR IS A JAPANESE CAR IF YOU DID'NT KNOW and your probably trying to mod it as we speak if you knew what an exhaust was or how it sounded like, if thats going to be your next question.

lol

of course you can tell this guy is not an enthusaist from the start.. i was surprised ANYBODY on this board didn't know what a BOV sounds like.. but it seems there's a lot more than i had imagined.. i must have over estimated the people on the board!
