Concerned with Post Accident affects..need opinions/help

my friend got rear ended with my car...he was on his way picking me up from the airport and some dumb person stopped in the middle of the freeway...he stopped in time but hte car from behind came pretty hard...
my friend was hospitalized..but he's fine..jus a bad case of shock and whip lash...

i got to look at my car the next day & the body damage looks repairable however, i looked at the exhaust and it seems that it got hit pretty bad, benind the rear pipe and displacing the y pipe area... and the imapct point was sligtly to the left of hte car...so...

My concerns are:
- could this have affected or possibly displace my engine??
- are the body/chassis alignment affected??
- should i replace the car?? i have about 7500 miles on it.

the body shop keeps saying that its a big damage but they can "candy" it up...but i jus wanted outside opnions on this one..

if anyone has advice that would help me out alot..thanks..

I curious what type of responses you get as well. I just got t-boned on the passenger side at about 30mph. The other person's insurance adjuster says around $13K to repair - no chance of totalling. My car is 2 weeks old and only 300 miles! Both passenger doors and a little of the front right quarter took the impact. My car got knocked 10ft to the side from the impact so I am worried about anything else that may be compromised.

i doubt the engine is effected, the alignment should be done when the repairs are finished and if there is frame damage the shop will notice it and pull it if need be. as for replacing the car, i would say no, nothing to worry about, i would worry more about my bodyshop saying they would "candy" it up... to me that sounds like well fix it, bu well half *** it... thinking that you wont know what to look for afterwards..

Honestly, if my car was ever in an accident that did more than just body damage, I would trade it in right away. I would report any dimished value loss due to the accident to the insurance company who is paying. I don't know if it would work or not, but I would do it for piece of mind.

Was this reported to the police? Then there's a good chance this is going to show up on a carfax report.

If you can take the hit, then sell it...farther down the line something is bound to pop up (prob alignment issues) and you'll be upset that it is never the same.

hmm, so it only pops up on Carfax if it was reported to the police? don't mean to hijack thread.

I personally wouldn't be happy with a 'candied' up ride. I'd get it fixed up as good as possible and trade.
Sorry for your bad luck.
C.

For damage that severe, you must get the Insurance company to at least pay you diminished value. Take it to an appraiser to get some idea of how much you should get in diminished value. Personally I'd ask for a new car. If the Insurance company refuses, I'd consult with a lawyer.
