Has Anyone Installed Aftermarket Parts by the dealer?

i scheduled an oil change about 2 weeks ago for tuesday (yesterday)
and my pop/Ztube and splashguards came in last friday so i just decided i would have the dealership put them on for me since i was going there anyways.
i walk in tell em what has to be installed and the guy did not give me an estimate, he said i could just pay when i pick my car up. i go there afterschool, the oil change was free and the guy hands my dad a bill : 331.00!!! I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT! he said the install for the splash guards (OEM ones) took 1.5 hours! and the install for the intake was 2 hours. what bulls hit! i wanted to argue, but the guy was being a total jerk, i didnt want him yelling down my throat or anything. Thats more than what they cost!
if there were any decent shops around my fuc kin town i wouldve gone there and saved like 200 dollars

im so pissed

2 things...

1: don't ever take mods to a dealership for install. that can spell disaster if you have to make a legitimate warranty claim in the future.

2: don't ever let a shop work on your car that won't provide you with a written estimate up-front.

You should ask to have at least one hour charge reduced. That is rediculous.

Ok so let me just throw this out their, I suspect your a youngin still in the teens (hands my dad a bill), prob live in Greenrich Conn and never payed a dime for the car... whatever. Ok, so you prob ordered the parts on his credit card also.. whatever. But before you brough them to the dealer why didnt you idleast try the install yourself? Your gonna have to get your hands dirty someday man, why not give things a try before you depend on others to do it for you. Now the splash guards (I installed mine in less than an hour) might be an exception becuase you need a jack and a drill to install them and might need to know how to operate those tools before you put them near the G (especially that drill). In the future before you take your car to any shop, if its an easy mod, give it a whirl, and then when its installed you can take a step back and admire the work you just did

If not Ill only charge ya 50 bucks to install some clear corners, the dealer would definately charge no less than 100 for that sh^t.

you should have asked before. i'm amazed people can buy stuff or have services done without even asking for a price. what has the world come to.

For the record: there are some mod. friendly dealerships out there but are very rare. You probably should have asked for a price quote before you left the dealership, I had my Z-tube and exhaust installed by the dealership. Prices were average, some custom shops wanted to charge more than Infiniti but there were also some small mom-n-pops shops around town that were a lot cheaper. I know some guys that drives past two other Infiniti dealerships before they come to an more mod friendly dealership. Sorry to hear your story though, guess I take it for granted that I live near LOKEY INFINITI.

Yup dats mad price.

Now that you are on subject, Ive been wanting to ask this. I wanted my car with splash guards, but it came without them. They gave me these WE OWE tickets, but I kinda like how the car looks without them. Why are you putting them on? I mean, with my previous G (owned for 8 months or so) I never had the splash guard chipped or anything... Who here thinks that Splash Guards is a MUST for Florida weather? No snow, fair to good roads?

Splash Guards

Even though they do serve their purpose, to me it will be more of a visual mod. They bring the lower body line a little lower at least around the wheel well. That's why I will get them when I find a nice deal.

I would charge that much too if someone asked to put pedals on. It's just a pedal man, you can do it, I promise.

If you don't ask how much something will cost, then you've set yourself up to be ripped off. I can't imagine not getting an estimate for any kind of work, be it on my car, house, whatever.

The dealership service department is the epitome of the automotive repair industry. Most will charge you by the book. If the book quotes 1.5 hours, then they'll charge that, regardless of actual time taken. Sometimes this works against them, but it's a rare thing.
