engine shut off at 90mph

i was driving back home tonight and dropped it in 4th @ about 80 mph and then floored it till i got to 90. as soon as i let off the gas, the engine just shut off.. i lost power steering, rpms were at 0, check oil and engine lights were on. i just coasted in neutral and pulled over and restart my engine. im guessing this is because of my injen intake or maybe even the car.
i called g35rider and talked to him. he suggested that i call the dealership to see if theres a recall on my car and if not, somehow figure out how to fix this problem. I was lucky there were no cars around but i could have easily gotten in an accident. im angry!!!

question for 6spd drivers. if the engine is shut off and im coasting at speeds of about 80. is it safe to start the car up while its in motion? or do i have to pull over and start it back up?

I don't know why your engine shut off, but go ahead and restart while it's moving. Don't turn your key off, it'll lock the steering wheel and cause a very bad day.

The problem could be linked to the intake- especially if its CAI. When you are traveling so fast and put the car into neutral air is still rushing into the intake even though the throttle plate is closed and MAF isn't expecting the air rushing in and it is causing the car to die. Autos don't have this problem because they are always in a gear [maybe if we were to push it up into N while at high speeds?] I dunno, just what I remember reading alooong time ago. Maybe someone else can chime in...

That's exactly why my car used to die. Got a heatshield for my Injen CAI (put it on the filter so it doesn't sit in the direct path of air) and life is good now

That never happened to me... mine only died when I put it in neutral after 80. But your problem is still most likely intake related.

the reason the car shuts off when u put it in neutral is probably because u're flooding your motor, going from 80mph to neutral is a big dump of fuel. If it happens again, just turn the key to the off then back on position, no need to take it out or crank it or wait for it to stop, just turn it on and off and it'll start back up, make sure the car is in the proper gear before u do that though.

when the car shuts off you lose power steering, you turn it off and on very quickly. Just throw the car in 6th, turn it on and off, don't crank, just turn and u'll be fine. I've flooded my car many times and have it stall out, you just put it in gear and turn the key off and on and it starts right back up. Since there is fuel all you need is the spark.

This has never happened to me, however I agree... Never turn the Key to the off position while car is moving, this will def lock up you steering and nitemares will occur.
