Yep, that's why a stock one is pretty much non-existent

Yup this is what I have known to be true all along.

The G35 will take these AWD Pocketrockets (EVO and STi) from a roll, but from from a complete stop and off the line, we will get our asses handed to us. Only car I can beat these cars at both situations are in my E55 AMG. Ive beaten a few EVOs off the line, and from a roll, the speed this thing creates out of nowhere is absolutely incredible.

regarding

See my friend has a blue sti. When we raced off the line he pulled on me by about a car, after we started getting up to speed on the highway I was really pulling on him, I guess our cars are more high end cars. He only had an exhaust done, but with upgrades it would be different. But the thing is you have to take into consideration that they are turbo'd already. Imagine if we had a turbo we would take them easily. This past weekend, my buddies Supra raced "one of the fastest STI's in the Midwest" as the guy claimed at the car show. My friend couldnt resist but put down $500 on the race. Hence he has a 93.5 Supra Turbo, thats fully moded but looks bone stock. He's pulling about 850 HP and the guy had no idea, cause he was so confident in himself. They went on the line and my buddy's Supra killed this guy buy 10+ car lengths.

This statement couldn't be farther from the truth! The burst from the turbo from a roll is just as potent as from a stand still. Don't believe me? Drive one!

Most encounters between these cars, unfortunately, occur while already in motion anyway. How often do strangers, for the most part, stop completely and drag race?

Yes those things are faasst. I think it also depends on how hard they've been running the car. My cousin has a few mods in his STI and he says that you do notice a drop in power if you've been running it hard and the turbo is really hot. But then again a couple more mods should fix that issue too.

I hope what you guys say is true.
I own a MY02 modded WRX and can't wait to get my 'V'.
Trouble with the Subaru is you have to be ready to run hard off the line otherwise even one of those Korean fridges would beat me off the start.
Sure dial up 4k and sidestep the clutch and nothing will touch you off the line to 100 feet. Otherwise it's all lag waiting for the tacho to get to 3k which seems to take forever.
Here Downunder we cannot buy a V35 until the compliancing tests have been completed. Hopefully that will happen in the next couple of months and then I can search the Japanese Auctions for one.
It's a funny situation here I needed the Subaru to replace my old R34 until something else comes along. Nissan here are so short sighted as they never imported the skylines here since the early '90's. We have only had access to them via the used market as all we get offered new is the Maxima.
Ask anyone here what is their favourite Nissan is and the answer is a model Nissan hasn't sold here for 15 years
Sorry if I've hijacked the thread somewhat but it's my first post so go easy on me
Cheers

I wish Nissan would continue to make Nissan S15 (Silvia). I think that is AWD and very powerful. But I assumed Nissan GT-R R34 are damn fast!

Just remember that AWD drivetrain losses are very real on those cars, and do hurt them from a roll. (I owned a modded WRX) Also, it's tricky to compare the perceived power, since the torque curve of a turbocharged 4-banger is so much different from a fairly large displacement V6. What feels faster isn't necessarily really faster. Having said that, the empirical data (quarter mile trap speeds) would indicate that a properly driven stock STi should pull on a stock G35. And a modded STi will eat it for breakfast.

I agree that the STi kills most cars in the quarter mile trap because of the gain associated with an AWD launch. I was just surprised how that advantage completely disappeared at highway speeds. Figured he'd still pull had on me and instead as we crept up on the speedometer, I was pulling him in. Pretty cool. I was lucky to run a stock one that is for sure!

yeah, thats definatly true, with the potential of thier stock turbos they can become beastly

Silvia = RWD (great drift car)
GT-R = AWD (sickest car ever)

Both are super-cool imho...

Trap speed is usually more an indicator of how they will run at highway speeds. The AWD helps more with the time. The two are related, of course...

Rayfield,

Good point. What do STi's and EVO trap? I know their 60's are crazy (1.7-1.8)

Based on the average G35C pulling a 2.3 60' and a 14.3 1/4 mile, a 1.8 60' would put the average G35C's time at 13.3 to 13.4. Trap speed will vary as I've seen 98 mph to 100. This is a good indication that the two cars are making similiar power, but put to the ground in two very different ways.

I've seen traps for STi's varying from 103-105mph. They've got pretty respectable pull, even stock.

I've done the same to STi's before on the freeway. We'd be pretty even until we got over 100 and then I'd just walk away. At that time I had Injen CAI, Stillen exhaust, light weight pullies and flywheel and dyno 254.5 at the wheels. A couple of weeks ago I was playing around with a clean looking EVO (Yellow with blue body graphics) and at least a turbo back exhaus and BOV. We hit the staight away and when I thought he was going to blow me away, I pulled him in really quick and pasted right on by with no problem. Right now I've added a plenum, headers, highflow cats and a NISMO clutch. I'll be going to the dyno at Stillen this weekend to see where I'm at now. I'm hoping I'm close to 270 at the wheels this time.

Later,

Ray
