Which would u buy? 04 or 05 (if both new)? why?
05 - The tenths of a second gained or lost between the model years have no bearing on my decision.
The cosmetic improvements to the exterior and the upgrades to the interior would be the clincher in choosing the 05. I've been shopping this car since the 03 model year and finally bought when I saw how they massaged the 05.
Nothing against the previos model years, I just think the 05 looks better, inside and out.

Having owned both (granted the 05 is a sedan) I would choose the 05. The interior is a bit more classy and dressed up. I would say the interior is finally approaching what a 35-40k car should look like.
I do like the brembos and the torque on the 04 is clearly stronger...but at the end of the day I would take the 05

This is actually a fun topic I think about sometimes. It is interesting because most cars that undergo mid-cycle refreshes come out better in every (or most) way than their predecessor. I think this is not the case with the G--you get some better, some worse.
For example:
2004 has Brembos
2004 has Michelin Pilots stock
2004 has drivers memory seat
2004 has more torque and is lighter
2005 has better leather quality, but, seats are very narrow
2005 has more durable aluminum trim, however, I think the interior looks very plain now
2005 has 19 inch wheels, but, personally I like the look of the 18s better and 19 inch tires increase ride harshness and are seriously expensive to replace.
2005 has power seat back but no memory (WTF? I don't get this)
2005 has MP3 capability
I would like very much to feel the 2005 clutch pedal assembly--I know they are selling these and was wondering if anyone had replaced their 2004 assembly with the revised assembly.
All things being equal, when you see a brand new 2004 and 2005 you don't notice all that much difference inside and how can you pass up the brembos? I think I'd still take the 2004--call me crazy.
Now, that being said, had the 2005 come with Pilots and Brembos I would be driving one today

But i would agree with everything else said here. 05 will have better resale.
If you could get a very good deal on an 04 i would consider it.
I agree with everyone. Definately the 05! I purchased my 04 in March of 2005. I bought the 04 not and 05 because the dealer had the 04 on order, and someone kept on telling the dealer for 7 months that he was going to pick it up, after putting 10,000 down. After 7 months, decided to purchase an M3. I walked in that day and purcahse my 04 Brand new with 37 miles on it for $31,000 with 100,000 mile warranty, and tire warranty as well. His loss, my gain. If The dealer was going to give me a few thousand off less than the 05, it would be sitting in an 05 now.
I have to go with 05 because that's what I got but if I had an 04 I wouldn't be mad.
But I do like the MP3 player capability and not having to go aftermarket. I know, I know everyone hates the Bose system and aftermarket always sounds better but at least I have the choice.
19" rims have really grown on me. And the sports suspension package is nice.
Plus whatever other refinements they did to the interior.
However like was said the '06s will probably have some options that I would like to have also like memory seats, intelligent key, more hp so you really can't ever gloat about one year is better than the other.
It's a G they're all great.............
