Ruined 18" Rims by a dumb detailer

Well I just had my rims ruined by a detailer we used at the shop. The not so bright guy decided to use acid based cleaner on my wheels. What eneded up happening was that it ate through the wheels paint and left big ugly streaks on them. I may post pictures later.

But now I am faced with the decision if I should have the wheels stripped, polished, and clear coated. Or if I should have the wheels repainted. Can anyone provide any pics of some polished 18" wheels?

It is very upsetting to have a 4-5month old car and have some guy ruin the wheels. I am kick myself for letting someone else clean my car in the first as well. But its in the past now and just need to figure out what I am wanting to do.

Have them chome it if you like that look. Also it will make the rims worth more in the long run.

If it's your business, either make an insurance claim or have the detailer you hired pay you back a little at a time out of his paycheck (deductible)...trustt me, nothing teaches a person a lesson more than when they lose money because of a mistake on their part.

I'm really sorry to hear that man. It especially sucks when you didn't do it, however you gave the dude the ok.. what can you do? sh*t happens, just have to take care of it

2 weeks ago i scratched my front bumper on the left side and broke my JDM corner light.. it was totally my fault so I just sat in the car for a few, realized it was all me, and then took care of it, now I'm happy again since its back to stock look

I have this feeling that's just awful in sympatico. Sounds like the detailer just didn't know what he was doing; the suggestion re a few dollars out of each weekly pay sounds good since he probably doesn't have a lot of dough.

Other than that, unless you love chrome or the polished alloy look, I'd suggest something a little diff. Pick out a color to either match or complement your car and see what a wheel shop (not just a paint shop) will do for you including painting and clearcoating (if they do that to wheels). Could be a very unusual thing and you'd be one in a 30,000 (or however many they've sold).

Drive on and sorry to hear it happened.

Re: Ruined 18" Rims by a dumb detailer

thanks for all the feedback fellas. I am still trying to figure out what direction to take. The detailer has no insurance if he did I would have just asked him to make a claim.

I am half tempted to just have them repainted to match. Or maybe just get a new set of Rims..

Thanks

Guys... I just realized I scratched one of my 18" rims, well... I was extremely upset even now... I'll post the pic later on when I am brave enough to look back at the scratch again... it's all myself...

Well yea yea I know, I should've slap myself a couple times... now I really dunno what to do, leave it for more (touch wood) then fix it later or fix it soon... cuz I know myself = worse driver...

YES YES I KNOW I SUCK... er....
