raced an IS300
Re: raced an IS300
Good stuff! I can't wait until we get these toys for our coupe... The IS300 is great on the interior, but why mod it when it just isn't going to have the great looks of a sports car. Maybe a good sleeper?
Zorro: Good Kill! sounds like you had a good time getin the excuses out after his jaw dropped. Sun roof, that one was lame! LOL

yes. yes. yes. and yes. the 2nd gen (98 and up) 2jz has the vvt-i cams and electronics. that makes it much harder to make the BIG power. and yes you will have to upgrade the tranny with anything more than 400 hp or so. the are no appreciable differences b/w the 2jz-ge (non-turbo) and 2jz-gte (turbo) other than compression ratios. the 2jz-ge even has an oil line coming off of the block for the turbos that arent there. not flaming, as the VQ engine, to my knowledge, is outstanding. but there is a reason that there are so many 6, 7, and 800 hp supra and sc300 turbos riding around. hopefully the aftermarket will step up for nissan and make us proud......

The only difference between the MKIV motor and the IS300 motor is that the Supra (TT) motor has Internals and a bit of head work...so withstand the pressure....Stock TT 2JZ-GTE can handle almost 600 HP stock without any more internal work.
<hr></blockquote>
EXACTLY. Which is why the stock IS 300 motor isn't going to take 500 hp for very long without some internal modifications to get it to -GTE status. Including, most importantly, lowering the compression ratio.
Can you get 500hp out of an IS 300 stock motor on a turbo? Yes, with 3 major issues:
1) You'll need to run race gas.
2) Your engine isn't going to last very long.
3) The stock tranny and clutch will be toast after 5 hard launches
Suddenly, its not $5k anymore for 500hp...
