Need opinions on what to do with scratched windsheild issue..

Okay, so basically to make a long story short, last night there was a slight rain for a short amount of time, so I had to use the wipers for a little. After a while I started hearing a scratching noise coming from the wipers, but I had my music up real loud and wasnt thinking much of it until one of the songs died down and I heard the screech it was making and I turned them off and pulled over. So I checked them out and somehow the windshield wiper rubber part had slid off the wipers! I put it back on and drove home and since it was raining and night time, didnt even think that there would be any scratches or anything.

But this afternoon, I could totally notice a rather obvious scratch where the tip of the wipers scratched the windsheild. I tried getting it off, even with a toothpaste remedy.. It seems like a very minor scratch that I can barely stick my fingernail in that there seems like there must be some way to take it out. I cant deal with this huge ring in the windshield though, so I must repair it some way.

My insurance company has a special deductable for this, but before I pay that do you think there is some way I could explain this to the Infiniti dealer (Ray Catena Infiniti, NJ) and blame this on a defective windshield wiper and have it all replaced under warranty? I plan to give them and my insurance company a call to explain the situation, but I'm wondering if anyone here has any advice. Anyone know of any good ways to get these scratches out either?

Thanks

Only if you lived in Florida...insurance must replace your windshield at no cost. Now with your situation, I am not sure if you could get your windshield replaced. Anyways, best of luck to you.

You can buff most of that out with "jeweller's compound". Talk to your local glass shop. If you tell them no new window, they'll help.

I had this done on a Mitusbishi 3000. There was an "arch" scratch right below the driver wiper. The glass shop got it out by buffing with a glass grinding compound. It did take it out but it also distorted the view through it. I lived with it for 3 years but it drove my wife (now ex) nuts because she was shorter. Hmmmmm....maybe that's why we're divorced???
