Trading In My Coupe For An M3...any trade in tips
#16
How do you guys figure his car will sell for $32? those numbers are nuts. I just bought a brand new, fully loaded (sans wing) 6mt with nav and premium for just under 36. Why would anyone buy a car that's 3 years older for just a $4-5k savings? That's crazy talk.
Beyond that, not sure where you are, but in Illinois, the trade value is deleted from the purchase price of the new car. Then the tax is calculated on the difference. In my case, I traded a car worth around 30 on my 36 purchase. The tax was only on 6k. This was a substantial savings in and of itself.
Couple the tax savings with the hassle of selling privately and sometimes trades do make sense.
Finally, that BMW dealer will likely put it on the wholesale market (if they didn't list it already) or put it on their lot for a week and then trade it to a sister dealership or wholesale it. If they wholesale it, they make a couple of thou tops.
