Re: How do you grind
The G is my first manual car that I owned and now 6200 niles and I never grind nor burn the clutch...I notice that when shifting from 1-2 and you slip a little you goiung to have a very notchy shift but if you let go of the clutch just right the sound of the motor and shifting becomes smooth. I dont know if this happens to anyone.seems like you really need to shift right on the friction point to get a good shift only on 1st to 2nd gear..rest are fine.

heh you have to shift properly with every gear to be smooth, thats just the nature of any clutch/manual trans
The gap (gear ratio) between the first and second gears is very large, that is why its a little hard to get it perfect. 2-3 is also a large gap
Just make sure you let the rpm's drop about 1,200 rpms when shifting at 3,000 from first to second, and let the clutch in slowly...that will make for a smooth shift. (In other words, let the rpms drop from 3,000 to about 1800 then engage the clutch)
I generally shift at 3,000 rpm in all gears until i am at the speed that i want to go, then i put it in overdrive (6th) if traffic lets me go a half mile without slowing down (saves on gas milage)
As far as grinding, i've never done it, but i let a friend of mine drive yesterday and he ground 4th gear, i was real pissed, he's been driving MT's for all his life too! grrr
I havent taken this car to the track yet, but i hear 2,500rpm is an optimal place to start from without spinning the wheels. Make sure you turn off VDC whenever on dry pavement. This car has mean oversteer, so be sure your tires are warm enough when doing stupid manuevers
