performance driving

I was wondering if anyone can recomend any books, or websites, on performance driving. A while back someone gave a link for a website which covered everything from seating position to shifting, but I forgot the URL. I appreciate any suggestions.

Re: performance driving

I guess I did not bookmark the page I found on certain driving techniques, but I do have this page that explains what an Autocross/Solo II is all about.

http://www.ner.org/soloII/whatis.html

Visit scca.org and do a google search (keywords: driving, racing, heel toe shifting) and you should find everything out there.

Re: performance driving

Shelleycat has given some good advice there (no big surprise), but Dave's is equally sound.

Books (or print media) are good for learning a lot of things, but learning performance driving probably isn't one of them. Nothing beats actually doing it - the feel, if you catch my drift. Certainly you'll get some good pointers and likely improve your skills, but if you're really serious about learning performance driving, there's no substitute for going to a school and actually doing it.

Re: performance driving

Yeah, no replacing real-world experience. But sometimes it helps the learning curve to read up on the basics first. The first time I ever fired a gun at a shooting range I had a great teacher who told me exactly what to do with my hands to compensate for the recoil and I got a bull's-eye with my very first shot. Of course, the target was only ten feet away, but still!

I can hardly wait to go to a driving school!!!! I don't know how I'm going to budget it in but I'm going!!!
