cyclists

Has anyone found a solution for those of us who occasionally like to go somewhere with our bikes?Roof rack OEMs don't seem to have anything.

Re: cyclists

I'm a pretty serious bicyclist and don't see any way to put one in or on a G, and prefer not to damage mine trying. No hitch without cutting the body, the clip ons always scratch, and I don't think much will go into the small trunk opening. I kept an old maxima instead of trading it for this purpose.

Re: cyclists

There's a trunk mounted rack which NEVER scratched or screwed up the paint on my old car. Basically, it attaches around the trunk with a harness and rests on the main frame on the trunk (top and bottom).

Picture a big "V" where the legs of the V fit on the top and back of the trunk lid. Then there are more (adjustable) legs that come out of the V that you place your bike frames on.

Only thing to worry about is taking turns too hard.

Cool! Just found it!

Re: cyclists

Get a compact frame bike, remove front wheel, fold down rear seats, cover trunk opening with a thick tarp to avoid scratches as you angle frame into trunk and passthru opening. Removing the spare and the cover to the spare's compartment might help you with the angling.

Of course, I can't imagine wanting to ride a bike anywhere when I could drive my G. Not on any paved surface, anyway.

Re: cyclists

I too would like to be able to move a bike around, but I am afraid it will scratch the paint. I asked at the dealership and they told me that Yakima is what they use on all of their cars. Since there is no G included in the chart which one of the ones there would you say will fit?

Re: cyclists

The one I was using was for a 96 Honda Prelude. (I think?) I don't really think I ordered it for the specific car, so I'll fit it to the G and post back on the thread later. However, the trunk decks of the prelude and G are very similar, so I don't think there would be a problem. Maybe a phone call to them would be easier and they could pick it out for you?

Re: cyclists

i actually have one of those non-scratching racks for when i go mountain biking, and have found them to work great on my Corolla......havent tried it on the G though
they have an adjustable straps and have rubber padded clips, and rubber and foam seats, just make sure you tie-down the wheels so that they dont spin around, as well as the pedals.

i'm reluctant to try it on for you because of the relatively thin paint that we have sorry
