225/50R17 for coupe's rear?

Just wondering whether anyone had used 225/50R17 on the coupe's rear? I calculated the difference in diameter to be something like 3.21%, i.e. the car is travelling just over 48mph when 50mph is indicated on the speedo.

I have an extra pair of 225/50R17 snow tires and my 225/55R17 are nearing their end of live so I was wondering whether I can use the 225/50R17 to replace the 225/55R17 next time winter rolls around.

Your input is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

you can replace them, shouldn't be too big of a problem, in that they will fit on your rim. I live in Cali, so we don't need snow or winter tires. My only concern would be lowering the profile of your tires, isn't that worse in snow conditions?

Make sure your front and rear diameters are the same relative difference though or you may have issues with VDC.

The fronts (225/50R17) are only off by about 0.9% whereas the rear are off by 3.21%. The difference for the rear wheel is about 1.13 cm or 0.44" lower. So I guess I will have almost a half inch drop at the rear.

That might throw off the VDC system. Your rear wheels will be spinning faster than the front so VDC might think there's a loss of traction at the rear.
