Timing Advance Finished
The other day I was bored at work so I took my car back to the techs and had them mess with the computer for awhile. They couldnt get the rev limiter raised which is what I really wanted. Unfortunately the computer that Infiniti gives them only lets then do what Infiniti wants...so...
I took the car back at 7AM when I got to work and it sat in the shop till about 11 when shop foreman came to get me and we went out to see what could be done.
Originally, we were going to advance the timing 3* once the computer was hooked up he went to the correct section and looked at the timing - naturally, all within specs at 0 = stock. Now, unfortunately the car would not take 3* for some reason. I have the 04.5 coupe and the 03 and 04 might differ in how the computers control themselves, this bummed me out alittle but I didn't know what was going on in the 1st place - 1* probably won't make any difference.
So, now for the test drive, I take it easy out of the shop, through the service area and then rip *** outta the parking lot leaving a nice strip of rubber down and half way to the feeder road [not a car distance]. went easy on her on the feeder road and then took a right, took ti easy down this road also but kept the car in MM. Stopped at a stop sign and waited for all the cars to pass by and give me enough room to accellerate without runnin up on their asses... took a right turn and let the RPMs raise to 2500. BOOM! I'm off!! Tires bark alittle and MAN! This thing feels like it has a supercharger on it!! Haha, not really. I can tell little to no difference. I don't think it hurt me, but I don't think it helped me alot either...maybe about equal to the power you'd get from a CAI or plenum / spacer. There is something there...but nothing that I would get too hyped up about.
So in short, you can get your timing advanced if you want just ALITTLE more punch but take note that if you take it to the dealer [and they even agree to do this] they will probably charge your atleast 30min worth of work [Infiniti techs get around $140 and hour] and it seriously only took about 4min to do, and it only took that long because we were trying to raise it that 1 more degree and we also made it relearn the idle and adjusted it alittle. [People complain the AEM CAI makes the car idle alitle lower and in turn can get alittle shakey when sitting at stop lights - I have the AEM and I can vouvh for this- so the idle was raised 50RPMs to about 700].
Thanks!
