Re: Just Installed Sirrius

is there really a difference between XM and Sirrus? thinkin going with XM.

Re: Just Installed Sirrius
The majority of people that I have talked to have gone with Sirrius. I think Sirius is 100% commericial free and XM isn't. I guess it's hard to tell since once you choose one you cant really compare it it the other.
Re: Just Installed Sirrius
I paid for the year up front and got a month free. $13 a month for sirrius So paying for a yeah up front makes it less than $2 more a month than XM and 0 commericials.
Re: Just Installed Sirrius
Hey man whats up. I did it myself but my coupe was prewired. Your's might not be from what I remember. I just made the VIN cutoff for prewiring. I ordered the part from Infiniti parts USA, it was around 320 w/ shipping and around 140 for the year subscription. I think Infiniti is supposed to run wires for those that have non prewired coupes but I'm not sure. It's really easy to install of you are wired though.. Hope that helps

kjohn, its Near cd-quality. dont give me all that BS, cd-quality has its weaknesses as well
128kbit Mp3's sound great when encoded properly (using a good codec, NOT by downloading off the net!)
DVD Audio, here we go!

Well, the post I responded to said it was "as good or better than CD", which is not quite the same thing as near-cd quality. As for weaknesses of CD, well, it's not perfect (that's why we have DVD-A and SACD now), but I will say that most of the weaknesses people blame on the CD format are actually a result of the production techniques used in much of today's music, (particularly heavy dynamic range compression and "brick-wall" filters).

We'll just have to agree to disagree about the merits (or lack thereof) of 128k MP3. But at least now I have a reference point for what you consider "near cd quality"
Again, I haven't actually heard a Sirius satellite feed, all I've heard is the feeds available from the website, which IMHO sounded pretty horrible. Assuming the actual satellite feed sounds better than the web feed, I don't doubt that it surpasses FM radio and may be perfectly adequate for a car environment. I just don't think it's technically feasible to achieve CD quality audio in < 128k (and yes, I'm aware of the impact different encoders can have on sound quality).

Re: Just Installed Sirrius
I have xm in my car now (through an aftermarket head unit) and I love it. I wouldn't worry about xm's commercials...you can go days without even hearing one..far cry from fm. The only exception is the digital stream from la kiss.
Look at programming. I've been doing a lot of research and xm has more stations for "hit" music. They also have a dedicated 90's station and thier stations play more music that you haven't heard too often or ever...even non-album cuts from hot artists on stations like "xm cafe". More sirius stations seem to focus on tried and true favorites.
Sirrius on the other had has much stronger dance stations and a much more diverse selection of talk stations.
It was a VERY hard call for me. Sirius has some key stations I would kill for. But I'm sticking with xm because they just seem to have a deeper variety of music...I just wish they had live streams online to convey that to potential users...
