Finished with modding

There has been much debate on whether or not mods actually work for our car. I figured I would just find out for myself and install a couple of basic mods that people have claimed to make power. First I installed the plenum spacer (GB @~$190) and after 3 weeks I have yet to feel any difference what so ever. Next, I bought the Z tube (used $45) and installed it today.

Took me only 10 minutes and it was cheap but I was told that there is a small gain in power and you can definitely hear the difference, so I figured it would be well worth the money. After driving around all day, driving hard at that, I can not hear or feel any difference. I really wasn't expecting to "feel" and difference but I thought it would sound better....nope.

It sounds exactly the same. I heard a select few people claim the same thing in the past but I thought they just weren't listening with their windows down or going WOT to redline. I did all of the above and nothing. I really don't think I will do any more performance mods for the car but I do want some nicer wheels and springs.

P.S.
I couldn't post this thread until I made a "test" thread and cut and copied it to this thread........really weird. It kept on saying that I was making a copy thread in the last 5 minutes but it was nowhere to be seen.

Sorry to hear that

I felt the 1/2" spacer was a very good mod. From 3.5k to redline the car pulled harder and the sound was very nice. The Ztube I did with the K&N drop in replacement filter. The z tube itself sounded great at 4k and up. Are you pushing the car past 4k rpms during drives? These mods make power from 3.5k and up...and some very nice sounds too.

You couldn't hear the difference? It was pretty obvious to me when I first got the Z-tube. I've gotten used to it now and it doesn't sound all that loud to me. But today I was at the dealer and took a brand new '05 5AT for a spin, stepped on it pretty hard and gosh that thing was quiet compared to mine. On a side note, let's just say that I couldn't be happier that I got the stick

But I agree with you... the $/hp ratio of N/A mods for this car is pretty sad. Plenums/spacers don't do much if anything for the '05 6MT, headers and cats/TP's - OK, y-pipe - next to nothing, exhaust - nothing. Wheels time here too, thinking about anything in particular?

Oh it was probably the repost detecting software they use ... don't think it's the first time I've read about how happy you are with the spacer.

Finiti35~teddy right? I can't hear a difference at all, my roomates either and they drive in my car a lot. I knew I would receiving this mod soon in the mail so I made sure I listened carefully to my car at WOT throughout the rpms without the ztube......it sounds the same now.

Aznteaser~i did research and I only found 1 guy that actually did a b4 and after dyno sound i wanted to find out for myself. I did a b4 dyno and want to do another dyno to see if my butt dyno is off.

Chaz, Just one more mod and you'll be happy. Just buy a JWT Popcharger (with the money you make when you sell your plenum spacer) and you'll hear your G come to life. You won't feel any difference, but it will sound way different. Take a ride in dabomb's car and you'll see what I mean.

Unless you put your car on a Dyno before you add any mods. Then Dyno after you do mods to your car you don't know how much you have gained or lost. You are not going to feel a 4 or 5 hp gain. If you want to feel a gain add a SC or Turbo or two. Unless you are making a big gain it might be hard to feel the difference. Adding an intake and exhaust you will hear the difference you may not feel it.

^ yeah, i did a b4 dyno.....241rwhp and 223lb/ft torque. I think neffster is planning another dyno meet very soon.

I wish we had a simple mod that added easy power. My 00 GTS gained 12 from intake, only 3 from exhaust and later a power FC had shown to add another 20 or so.
On my 01 Acura Cl-S headers added 20-25fwhp! both of these cars are NA.

Well after the dyno if I don't show much of a gain from the plenum then i will definitely get it and sell the plenum spacer......how much are they.

You should do an ECU reset. Some people's butt dynos are more calibrated than others. With that said, I felt every mod I've done to my car...some more than others. The Z-tube/pop charger combo and the Y--pipe was the weakest, with the plenum and the crank pulley coming in second, and the flywheel making the most difference. I've had my mods on so long that I don't notice them anymore. I would love to drive a stock car again just to see how far I've come. I would return the favor the the stock G35 owner.

Just a question I heard some people say the Plenum/Spacer doesn't make much difference on the 05'. Does this only apply to the 05' MT or the AT as well? I heard that it won't make a difference on the MT but it will make a difference on the AT. Is this true or no? I heard the difference in HP between the MT and the AT is the spacer or lack there of. Thanks in advance

I did the ECU reset for the spacers but I figured there is no need for the Z tube since it doesn't make any power at all.

Kurupt~Ive heard the same thing but I think the updated 05's hp had nothing to do with the plenum.

Well, since you want butt dyno performance, I say buy a pop-charger and if you still don't like it....well, then focus on making it look good, lol
