How did you break-in your G?

Because there's so much controversy over which method works best when breaking in a new car, I'd like to find out which method the majority of people used. I'll be getting a new G, most likely the '06, in a few months and I'm not sure how I should break it in.

BTW, this was also posted in the 'Sedan' section because I thought it would be interesting to see if coupe and sedan drivers differ in their break-in method.

I used the common sense method. Heed the manual and be nice to it (engine, tranny, drivetrain), but drive somewhat normally. You just cant keep up with traffic or even safely merge in some instances (under 60mph/4000K). But I certainly didnt abuse it during this time. I busted 4K a few times, but got nowhere near the limiter. Doubt I crossed 5.5K. Early change at 1500.

worked for me (and most VQs)

Does anyone have a report from a engine that was broken in hard? I'd love to see one with a few miles on it. (not being sarcastic, I really would)

For those that followed Motoman's method, do you think it actually helps?

I have seen incidents in which people drove there car hard during break in. I'm not sure if it were coincidental or not but they had some extreme blowby early. It wasn't a G though

I mostly followed the manual with a few exceptions. I hit 5 or 5.5k a couple times between 600 and 1200 miles. I did the first oil change at 1160 miles, and then eased into it. Now i drive it like a stole it.

Even under 4k rpm, i didn't put too much stress on the motor by making it
work more in a higher gear.

Just drive normally and it should be fine.

You guys are rediculous.

I drove it somewhat average, nothing less. I didnt bring mine close to redline for the first 1,000 miles or so, but some of you guys take some absolutely rediculous precautions imo. There is absolutley no need to even touch any fluid at 1,000 miles, or anything besides every 3,250 which is still EXTREMELY conservative..

The first few miles of our cars are run at well over 100mph at a test track in Japan. As long as you dont bring it up to redline every single time you are driving when you first get it, you will be fine.

Took it easy for 1000 miles or so, and usually change my oil at the same time, but the M is waiting until 2k for its first change.

Why not get the oil changed every time you fill up your gas tank while you are at it!

I tried to drive it conservative but took it up to about 5.5 or 6 about 10 times in the amount of time I was breaking it in
