Recall

FYI- I just called my Infiniti dealer in Ramsey NJ for my first 3,700 mile service and I was told they need to keep teh car and extra 45 minutes because there is a brake light recall. I asked if the brake light goes out and they said it can cause other electrical problems. Just an FYI- I will re-post on Monday the 23rd.

Re: Recall

Yep, they already replaced mine at Costa Mesa Infiniti here in So. Cal. during the last oil change. They told me it just causes the brake lights not to light up when you hit the pedal is all. Peace.

I think so too. It might be a relatively minor thing from a mechanical or electrical standpoint, but the implications for road safety are pretty serious.

I had to brake extremely hard today to avoid running into a wreck that happened when somebody ran a red light and hit a truck that was in front of me. (Thank God for the G35's awesome brakes). Afterward I couldn't help but think that this particular recall item could have had a pretty nasty effect for me if my brake lights had failed since there was a fullsize custom van a bit behind me who just barely managed to stop in time as it was. I'll definitely be taking my G35 in for this service in the very near future.

BTW, this is not just something that affect original 2003 models. dfw_infinity posted the VIN ranges over on freshalloy, and the second VIN range includes 2003.5 models. My G35 is only 2 weeks old, and the VIN is within the affected range.

Re: Recall

Apparently they are going to send out notification letters on June 30th 2003. The brake lamp switch may malfunction.
There is a website where you can check all recalls for all vehicels. http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...callsearch.cfm

Re: Recall

I remember reading about this recall elsewhere, and I think the real issue is not a threat of your brake lights not actually lighting up.

It is supposedly a big problem for 5AT models because of the possibility that you will not be able to shift your car out of park if the transmission doesn't realize that you have your foot firmly on your brakes. You'd be essentially stranded.

I can't seem to find that bulletin now, but I remember that being the core problem that I read about. It's over on FA somewhere ...

Re: Recall

Sorry, in addition to the transmission lockout problem, tail lamp illumination is a potential problem. Finally found the original thread here.

Re: Recall

It's not just the Coupe, it's also the 5AT Sedan (6MT Sedan not affected).
