eddie-your post is a little messed up. the 1st pic is of an E55 AMG. the 2nd is of the S55amg. the S55=493hp 516tq. you quoted the E55 hp number. you got to love those AMGs.

 

If I had the means, I wouldn't hesitate to get another AMG car. They are damm quick.

The AMG Benzes are f'in SWEET cars...if I had the dough, an E55 or an S55 would just make one hell of a second car.

 

Yeah, those things are very impressive! The lighter SL55 convertible coupe model gives my Z06 quite a bit of trouble! The SL looks and sounds really nice too. If I had the dough, I'd buy one

I got to drive a S600 the other day. The thing was lolling around like an American luxury sedan, and I was getting really impatient with my total inability to sense the road. Then I stopped at a light where I needed to get ahead of some revved-up Dodge Ram before the road merged, so I figured I better floor the 4800 pound beast to have any chance. The car made some "you sure you want to do that?" hesitation, and then... HOLY [censored]!! I damn near blacked out from the g force. All the fluid around my brain was plastered to the back of my skull. I had no idea the thing packed a 493hp V12 that makes 590ft-lbs of torque at 1800 rpms. Found out later it runs a mid-4 second 0-60. At nearly 5000 pounds with a passenger. I was terrified to touch the accelerator after that. Except, y'know, at the next stop light. And the one after that. And on the highway entry ramp.

I would still prefer to drive my G for the road sense and responsive controls, but, uh, yeah, it ain't gonna feel real fast to me in a straight line after that. Oh, but our Navs are much cooler than the one you get in a $120k luxury car, in case you're wondering.

IMHO most all AMG's are straight line cars. When cornering, it does well, but will not match our G's or Bmw's.

but hey... which is faster, S55AMG or the BMW 760Li? I'm talkin 1/4 mile times though... not 0-60 cuz when was the last time you stopped racing at 60mph? how about NEVER ;-)

70 - 0 in 163 ft and 0.9 G on the skidpad is pretty good for a "straight line" car, and it's more than a match to the G35.<P ID="edit"><FONT class="small"><EM>Edited by TX_G35 on 06/17/03 08:40 AM.</EM></FONT></P>
