Differences between the G and 350Z

Hi Everyone,

Can someone sum up the main differences between the Z and G? I know the Z is meant to be a sports car and the G has two more seats and more luxury. I'm debating if I can sacrifice two seats in a daily driver. I also want a fast car!

Thanks!

haha, that is the way i'm leaning. I love the look of the G, and I would love to get one and put some deep dish wheels on it...I love that look! If I wanted raw performance but did not care about looks and interior I guess I would get an STI.

You got it. If you want raw performance, get the Z.

If you are going to be driving the car alot, get the G.

That just means the G comes with better tires. The Z handles better, I had one before the G. I dont regret trading at all however. The G is more comfortable, luxurious, and better overall as a daily driver. My Z was a little bone-jarring to drive everyday.

Well, I have both. When it comes to driving them they are both the same. Same exaust note, same pick up, same handling. The 350z just has a lot less space lol.

The insides of the Z aren't as near as nice as the G. But the digital Speedo is a nice touch.

The Z was built off from the G. So basically it comes down to, Save money and get the fake. Or spend the extra few dollars (litterally in some cases) and get what the car was ment to be.

Personally, I hate fake things. The choice was easy for me. If I want "raw performence" then I'll get a G35 and Hook it up.

The Z is more tossable. The G holds a line better in the corners- more stable in the turns. This is not only because of the tires but because of the longer wheelbase. The Z would be easier to recover out of losing your rear end, but in the G it is harder to lose your rear end.

You own a 350z and a G35? Wow, got any pics of your Z? Or Z and G together?

Actually, most Z owners would consider the G "fake" since the Z (fairlady Z) continues the Z heritage, whereas the G35 (Skyline 350gt) isn't really considered a "true" skyline....yet.

I'm no Nissan historian, but I've never seen anything that said the Z was based off the G.

Plus I'm confused, you say the 350z is "fake" but you bought one??

Save money? How? Price a G35 coupe with Premium, Navigation, Aero, Splash guards, Perf. Tire and wheel (18") and Trunk mat. Price an equally equipped 350z Touring with Navigation, Aero, splash guards and all the standard features with this trim (18", Bose, Xenons, leather, side airbags yadi yadi). The G will be cheaper or about the same.

EDIT: I stand corrected, the Z 6MT is $1210 cheaper but comes with 18" instead of 19" on the G and the Z won't have the G's $1000 sunroof

The G and Z, as has been noted, are basically the same. Frame is 8 inches longer in the G, same width, a couple of hundred pounds heavier, more luxury and appointments. Better aerodynamics in the G, though unless you are blasing along at 100mph plus it will not matter. Same engine, different drive shaft. A few other things of not real significance in difference. Just a question of what suits your needs and appeals to you aesthetically. You can pare down the G, and doll up the Z, with relatively little money and effort, so the distinctions become very marginal. What is truly fun about both cars is that now there is a plethora of quality and proven aftermarket products, both for appearance and performance, and most will work on both cars. (Not body kits of course!). This is especially true of the performance side, so one neat thing about a G is that you can access most of the really mean performance stuff and unless somebody is a car nut...they will have no idea of what that "stealthy" G next to them can really do!
Have fun with your car.

For the differences in performance and handling, minimal at that I believe, it sounds as if the G Coupe is a better purchase overall. I might get some flack for making that comment. However, this is a G forum after all.

ONe of the main things that did it for me was the Z is assembled in the states and the G is assembled in Japan. Something about buying a Japanese car made in the states seems odd to me.

Who told you that? If you look at the Z VIN, it starts with an JN just like the G. The Z and Murano are made in Japan...
