question about wheels.
question about wheels.
I just realized after I went to the infiniti dealer that you can get a g35 with 17 inch all year performance tires. I could skip the sport suspension package, and get regular tires that will work for me all year round, or I could get the 19 inches if they are really worth it. I just think Im going to be lazy and skip the snow tires once winter starts. I could always just get the 19's and not drive the g35 on snow days?
Im lost on what to do with the tires and snow!

first off what year g35 are you talking aboutand what trans. if its an 05 than ALL 6mts come with the sports package and 19s. if its an auto than the 17s are on the base models, and you can choose either the 18s(performance pack) or add on sport suspension pack(19s, vlsd, loweirng springs etc)

You can buy tires more suitable for snow in any size. There are All Season tires that perform as well as the summer tires on the streets. Many keep an extra set of rims/tires for the winter. Do you have another car more suited for snow? The G is not the best car in snow/ice especially without LSD- for that reason the sport package may even be better if you keep an extra set of tires for the winter.
sorry I meant I am getting a 5AT. I want the 19inch wheels but I heard they cannot be driven in snow. I could just get the 19's and not drive the car on snow days. But I drive long distances to see my gf and if a snow storm hits while I am out there I am afraid how I would get home on the 19's. Another thing is with the 19's if I get snow tires where Am I going to keep the 19's? and How will I get them home in my coupe after they install the 17 inch snow tires?
I could just skip the sports suspension package and get a base 17 inch one. But I don't know what to do. Oh I live in Chicago, where it snows once in a good while in winter, and usually alot. But then the roads are usually clean after a day.

if you have money get the 19s and use them for summer. then when winter rolls around get some 17s with snow tires on them. if you dont have money just get the 17s with all seasons on them. or just get the 19s and dont drive at all in the snow.
LSD-Limited Slip Differential- When turning, your rear travels less than your front span, so it accomodates this so that you don't throw your rear out and do a 360. Can't be turned off.
VDC- Vehicle Dynamic Control- Automatically brakes your wheels when it senses too much wheel spin (i.e. snow..) Can be turned off.
Traction Control is what will keep your tires to the road. Can't turn it off.

ok well I guess having the VDC and LSD would be good in snow. Just dont think the 19's will do good lol.
I might just not drive it on snow days, or plop down the money and get the 17 snow tires. we will see

Go for the 18"s or the 19"s. I dont like the look of the 17's and how they take away from the beauty of the G, allthough they will be the best in the winter with snow on the ground, expecially since they come with the all season tires standard, while the 18s and 19s come with summer tires which can be dangerous in snow.. You can go buy all season tires for your 18 or 19 inch wheels, but then you are looking at atleast $600 for that whole deal. You can find the 17" rims and stock all season tires for cheap, in fact I will be selling mine for as low as $350 if you are interested. I live in NJ here, but any snow we get is cleared out pretty quickly, and I have an SUV I will use in the bad weather anyway so I really dont have a need for them.
Just to help you decide:

I personally like the 18" the best, but the 19"s are gorgeous as well.
