Concern: 19" Tires

I'm about to purchase/lease a new 2005 6MT coupe. I love the tires but I hear they wear quickly. I priced out a set online for approximately $1000 before shipping. Not that this will deter me from a G35 Coupe but this seems amazingly expensive. Anyone know how long they will last and if there are any better deals out there? Will I have to change all four at once?

Thanks, I look forward to being a member on this forum!

Tires will last only as long as your driving habits. If you drive very "spirited" they will obviously wear quicker.

With that said, and this goes for the 03 and 04's that come with the Michelin Pilot sports, some have gotten as low as 10-12K mileage on them with burnouts, etc. while some have also gotten 25K out of them.

I can't say for sure which tires the stock 19's have on the 05's but they probably range in the same number of mileage.

Good luck with your choice and welcome to the club!

Mine came with Bridgestone Potenza's on the 19's, they are good tires but I'm not sure about the mileage since I only have 500 miles on them so far.

Well if you ever decide to buy tires... Look up OnlineTires.com... Service was excellent, price was way lower than discount tire and Tire Rack... The tires arrived at my door 3 days after the order... and I'm in Hawaii...

Has anyone on the forum tried a different tire with better results? I have potenza's as well and like them. Some of my bimmer and audi friends like the Pilots but if they're wearing that quickly on our rides I'll have to throw that recommendation out the window.

Tires for the 19" cost about the same as the Sport Pilots for the 18", which isn't a bad deal at all. Also, you don't HAVE to replace them with the same brand, even if it's a lease. I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives out there, but since the car is only a few months old people haven't started talking about replacements yet. You won't need to replace all 4 at once, your fronts may last 1.5-2 times as long as the rears. A lot of people just choose to. Also, highway miles are generally easier on the tires.

Btw are you from Boca Raton? If so, introduce yourself in the Florida G35 Club section when you get your car

Which BFG's? Sorry if there's only one that will fit ours. I came from knowing whether tires were mudders, AT's, swampers, bfg mud terrains, etc...so I'm new to the performance tire scene.

The bridgestone Turanzas that came on my 18", are crap. Same 140 wear rating. The cost $320 EACH and I have 10K on them and they are half gone.

They are made in Japan and imported, that's why they cost so much.

1K for tires on a car like this is a pretty good deal. You should price out a stock set of tires for an M3, it'll make the G seem like quite the bargain.

when leasing a car, do you have to replace the tires with exactly the same brand and model of tire that came on it stock? Otherwise you could go with a cheapy set of Nankang or Hankook's

I'm sure there are plenty of tires that are cheaper... maybe even some with better grip, better life, or hopefully... a combination of both. After it all, though, they are 19s! When you get that big, tires aren't going to be cheap.
