What makes you guys think M3 tires are so expensive? Unless you're buying runflats, the fronts are the same size as ours and the rears are 255/35 instead of 245/40.

Check out Bridgestone RE050 tires or Michelin PS2. Both are very good tires - pricey but good.

The Bridgestone RE050 is the stock tire on 05 6MT. I took mine off and after 1500 miles of easy break-in driving you can already see signs of wear. Soft tires. On the other hand, my Avons have been on for 3000 miles now and still look new. After break-in, I've been driving a bit more spirited too. 140 treadwear rating is horrible, 360 is miles better.

Are your Avons a performance summer tire? I don't disagree with you, but comparing treadwear ratings across brands does not mean a thing.

No, ultra high-performance all-season. Was just pointing out that you don't have to settle with tires that wear out fast. My initial mileage comparison does prove that these tires will last 2 to 3 times longer, at a small sacrifice in handling, and increased ride comfort. I agree it is hard to just compare treadwear numbers across brands, but 140 to 360 is no small difference non the less.

Are you running them on stock wheels? What size did you get up front and how much are they?

Well considering the great (smell sarcasm) roads here, I went with the stock 18's and their respective tire sizes. I paid just over 650 shipped. I have to say I'm impressed with a tire that has not had the brand name recognition like many other tires. I'm more impressed that the car retains most of its handling capablilities and yet the ride quality has improved dramatically. With the addition that I will beable to drive it in a dusting of snow if needed. Not like it snows in MN anymore. But, now I have a set of 19's to deal with selling.

BFG KDW 2's....they're great for wet and dry traction...Go to tirerack.com so far i've found them on that site for relatively cheap...I like the OEM tires but they are pricey.

What perfect timing for a tire thread!

Just got my BFG KDW 2's installed yesterday. $1000 really isnt too unreasonable...these were under a grand but if I got the tires I really wanted (Pilot Sport 2's) it would have been 1400 or so. But let me tell you these BFG's look AWESOME on the car. Everyone that has seen them has already commented. The tread pattern rocks.

After driving a car with PS2's though I'll say if you have the means then GET THEM. They blow the original Pilot Sports out of the water.

I had all 4 done almost right at 20k. The fronts easily had another 5k in them, but the rears were totally gone. Past the wear bars, past the tread, they were perfectly smooth in the middle and almost across the whole tire.

Interested to see how the BFG's wear....

$381 per tire? Or $381 total for the rear?
