Hey everyone, I just test drove a 04 6mt coupe with 33K miles. I noticed a few things that bothered me.....

1. The front tires showed abnormal wear. They were worn out on the inside, but fine on the outer part. I thought he put new tires and needed alignment, but they were original tires. They also made a lot of noise when just crusing, but it got horribly loud under braking.

2. Clutch was extremely stiff. I had to put a lot of pressure just to get it down. I have driven my buddys 350z, and it was not like that at all.

3. Shifter was also very stiff, and I skipped gears a few times, (4-6) and it made a grinding sound for a second.

4. Brakes were not very responsive, but im guessing theyre just worn out because it has 33K miles.

I desperately need some info about these problems. Have any of you experienced this? Is it covered by warranty? Any help would be great.

that's a lot of miles for 04.. r u getting it from dealer or private? is it lowered? my buddy has 04 6mt with about 20k miles, but none of that problems yet..

here's a tip...don't buy that car.

But really, a car with 33k miles should need new tires. Pre 05's had stiffer clutches and shifter I believe. Can't tell you about the brakes though. None of that should be covered under warranty.

Ya it does have a lot of miles for an 04, but the price is a little lower than average. Its private party and its all stock. I dont think Im going to get the car, it just did not seem normal to me with all the problems. So is the clutch, tire roar and abnormal wear common on the G and is it covered under warranty? I know the 350z had the tire wear problem, but didnt think it was a problem for the G.

The inside of tires will wear out because of camber. This is normal. The clutch is stiff. People have been getting some grinding with the tranny, and this may a wide-spread problem.

True, however if the car has been kept within spec (i.e. meaning not lowered) that should not wear the tires significantly on the inside. Sounds to me like the car was lowered at one point and was raised back up. The clutch isn't too stiff - reminds me of a cable clutch feel.

33K miles on stock tires?! Yah I bet they roar!

33K miles on an 04 doesn't mean much, just that it was driven alot.

Stiff clutch may be normal for that year. Stiff shifter and missing gears may be signs of trouble. Brakes fading and bald tires, that car may have been driven a little too hard too long.

Anyone else have any comments??

I've driven an 03 Z with a freshly replaced clutch and I've driven an 04 6MT G. The Z definitely had a stiffer clutch, not sure if it was due to it being new but the owner told me it actually felt less stiff after getting replaced. Have you inquired if the clutch has been replaced or pulled the carfax? I remember someone posting that dealer replaced their tranny because of that 5th gear grind. Honestly a few bucks less aren't worth the possible headaches.

I have an 04 with 37k miles right now... my tires were balding at 28k or somewhere around there and I never lowered it or ever spun out the tires (I have on occassion chirped through 1st and 2nd but that's pretty rare too). I changed my brakes at around 18k I think and the clutch on this car is stiffer than any car I've ever driven or test driven. I've had a transmission replaced and going to have the second one replaced by next week....

I'd say that car is one of the ones on the bottom of the barrel, POS straight from the dealer like mine, but in retrospect is not exactly as bad as some of the other stories on this board and I still love my car... but I say don't buy that one.. find another one...

Oh and yeah my tires wore on the insides only, the outsides looked nearly new when I changed them....

the roaring you speak of under breaking or slowing.....why would worn tires cause that noise

that seems more like maybe noise coming from the rotors/brakes maybe it needs new pads

I would buy a 2003 with that many miles on it. But not a 2004. Maybe he has taken care of it and changed his oil and everything else. But 33k he has driven it pretty hard. To each their own though. I would want to see his service records. Even if he changes his own oil he should save the recepts for the oil filters from Infiniti if he is using their filters. I change my oil but write the mileage on the filter recepts so I have a record of when the oil was changed.

Good luck but you might want to drive another G35 to see how it drives and how the clutch and trans work in that one.

I also own an '04 6MT and just replaced my tires at 23K miles. I have never lowered my car, and the wear you speak of on the front tires is normal. I had them rotated (wheel swapped) at about 13K miles to even out the wear. My rears were slicks when I replaced them, and I don't consider myself an extremely aggressive driver.

I have always thought that the clutch is too stiff, and I'm actually having the dealer lower the friction point closer to the ground for me to help with this.

Overall I think 33K miles is a little high for an '04, but seeing as the stock tires are still on and not completely worn down, it tells me that the previous owner was pretty tame.

This makes no sense at all....I would rather have a 04 with 33k miles than a 03.........all this means is that the driver probably drove more hwy miles which is better on the car in the long run.

how much is he asking for this 6MT.
