But even if im not driving and the car is just sitting and I want to show someone what it sounds like, all i have to do it attempt to put it in 5th, and it makes the same exact noise. Loud grinding noise like many nooby MT drivers im sure do. I took it to a tranny shop and they said it seemed like the tranny synchros in 5th were messed up. any ideas? covered under warrantee right? any help is appreciated. thanks

actually...you don't have to use the clutch the shift. I've shifted mine all the way through the gears without touching the clutch. and it was actually quite smooth. However, if you can't even do it with the clutch...you definatly have problems. Let us know how it comes out.

its pretty hard to shift w/o a clutch. you gotta know the car pretty damn well and be a pretty damn good driver. personally, i cant do that but i know someone who can. it just amazes me. its not that i cant shift, its just that it grinds very loudly, and i have to jam it into gear. now if i double clutch, i can get it into gear with less grinding, but it is there none the less (sp?) does anyone know how long it usually takes for them to recognize the problem and/or fix and replace the tranny?

NIssan/infinity are well aware of this problem in 5th gear the 350z's have been haveing this problem for a while. They do have a fix for the problem. In some cased they replace the entire trans in others they replace the defective part with the new updated one. From what I can gather the new updated part solves this problem.

just got back from the Dealer. Dealer says...new tranny. they are going to order it today and see if they can get it in this week. At first the tech did not believe me about the grind. he would shift so slow that it wouldnt grind at all, but i asked him to shift somewhat faster from 4-5 and 6-5 and he finally felt it. At first he said that i wasnt pushing the clutch down to shift. and now i did finally learn how to shift w/o using the clutch. its quite awesome. you just gotta find the right RPM and the shifter falls into place

You are right. Seems to be a common in the 03-04 6MT. Just had mine done 2 weeks ago, Infiniti will replace the whole tranny (if under warr).
