i also have an auto coupe with 280 hp. Im starting off my modding with a 3/8 motordyen plenum spacer and a z tube. That should put me at about 290 at the crank. Im not too worried about the numbres though; as long as i can feel some sort of a performance increase throughout the powerband. (a nice growl from the z tube wont hurt either) Im gonna be installing those 2 mods this weekend.

What about the most cost-effective mods to get 300 crank hp (about 250 RWHP)?
I'll start with MD Spacer for about 8 RWHP. Then probably Z-tube + JWT pop charger for another 4 RWHP. That's probably 12 RWHP or +15 at the crank.
Then for that last bit, probably the ECU limited spec reflash?
Next step up - high flow cats? Should definitely be over 300 at the crank at this point (I would think).
Then headers - now we are starting to talk $$$.
Anyone else rank order these differently (based on cost effectiveness)?

i only have injen CAI on my auto '03. i test drove 350z b4 and my car still feels a lil more sluggish than stock z. it must be the weight of the car... im considering a exhaust right now, and i think i will be pretty happy with 300hp @ crank. can someone suggest a good exhaust for person like me? i am sure i wont be getting any more mods after the exhaust... (hm.. MAYBE header~ mayebe... ) btw, i dont care about how loud its gonna be.

I honestly wouldn't worry about getting to the specific number 300. It's just a number that just so happens to be even.... and that number varies based on your test environment temperature, along with a bunch of other variables. The difference between 295 and 300 relative HP is not not noticeable at all anyways.
You should definitely get an either a Z-Tube and a K&N Filter, or a CAI. The motordyne spacer has also shown good gains from what others have said.
I just bought a spacer myself, and it just came in the mail today. I'll be installing it Friday. Feel free to PM or IM me if you want my thoughts/feelings on its performance gains.
I am going to be doing some detailed tests to see if the spacer has any effect on gas milleage as well, and that info will go up on this site probably in the next 2 weeks.
As far as I know... there is no reprogrammed ECU for the 2004 G35's out yet.
How much money are you willing to spend?

You can literally go crazy researching each of the various mods and their effects on performance (or lack thereof). After much reading, researching and pondering, I ended up going with just the Z-tube for intake. What scared me away from CAI are the not-infrequent reports of an actual decrease in hp and torque. I don't notice a difference in hp, but the sound is definitely nicer (cheap mod, too).
I also love the current exhaust sound and look. I've decided to keep the stock exhaust for now, and go with Crawford cats and headers. Cats arrived today, and I'll install them in the next week!
I think with exhaust and intake-type mods, you can probably do 300 hp to the crank. Regarding 300rwhp, you'll need F.I. for that, I would think...
My statements are based entirely upon research done on several forums and other online resources. I don't claim expertise.
