Question Trading in '03 coupe for '05 coupe - need advice

Hi everyone,

I have a 6mt/DG/G/Aero/Prem '03 G35 Coupe. I want to trade it in for an '05. I am stuck on getting a 6mt/BS/Stone/Aero/Prem/Nav. Believe it or not there is only one available in the country with that combination. The local dealer here said they can get the car over here but they want to charge me between 1800-2200 for the freight charge. This seems asenine to me.

Also, I need to know how much to expect to get on the trade-in for my car, it has 27K miles on it. Also, they seem to want me to pay MSRP, how much off should I be able to get off the MSRP. My company does not have that special nissan deal that i hear people talking about so I need to know realisticaly what I can negotiate.

Any advice on pricing negotiation would be much appreciated. I may consider getting lakeshore blue, anybody have any opinions on any of the colors, ii am really stuck on the stone grey leather especially since i currently already have the graphite interior.

Thanks,

Cyc.

Just head over to kbb.com they will give you what its listed for dealer trade in. As far as the 1800+ destination charge you are right that is insane, I would rather wait longer then pay an extra 1800 for them to send some 18 year old valet they are paying $8 hour for to rip you car up on the highways for 300 miles

Dealer trade should be included. You shouldn't have to pay a dime more.

depend on where you are. For example if you are in Cali, you might have to pay more than others. I wouldnt do dealer trade in if I were you, you tend to make thousands more by selling it to another private owner. And you shouldnt expect to pay MSRP, 6spd coupe is in high demand and low supply relatively, so its kinda hard to get a below invoice price. I suggest you shoot for about $500-800 above invoice. But again, it depends on the state that you live in. If you are really that unflexible that theres only that 1 car in the nation that you must have. then you might have to pay more. good luck

I just traded my 04 G35 Sedan 5AT for a new 05 G35 Coupe 6MT in Riverside, California. They gave me Edmunds.com fair market trade value immediately. There's a BIG market for cars for the Infiniti certified pre-owned program if your old G is reletively un-modded. I had a dealer-installed Injen CAI, but still had the original intake in the box. They're gonna make $$$ on your new one, $$$ on your trade. As a 2nd time new Infiniti owner, I think they should flat-bed it for free.

I wouldn't trade now either you will be disappointed that you didn't wait for the 06 your not gaining much by getting the 05 but maybe a bigger car payment and your also losing the brembos. atleast the 06 will have the projectors (so they say) and the intelli key and who knows what else. But just my opinion. I could understand a little more if you had a 5at and wanted a 6mt but coming from a 6mt to another 6mt it's not a good move to do a trade for basically the same exact car

I wouldn't do it unless you are going from a sedan to coupe or vice versa. SUCH a waste of money.

You want some advice..........
You are buying pretty much the same car and losing money in the process. Get sensible.
Save your money for the GTR, not the same car you already have.

I traded for several reasons...

1. I just had major recontructive back surgery and my doctors told me that I can't drive stick for the next year, so I could either continue to keep my 6mt and stare at in the driveway for the next year or trade it in for an auto and be able to drive it in a few weeks when i get clearance to drive again

2. I was paying $700 a month for my 6mt. By trading it in and getting a new car, my payments dropped down to $350 a month because the difference between what I owed on the car and what they gave me was significantly higher than my original down payment.

3. I had TONS of problems on my 03 6mt, including having the tranny replaced 3 times and the car repainted 3 times due to the dealer always scratching it up on my and doing crappy paint work to fix it.

great advice guys...

But I have the same issue as g35girlie.. my car has never really felt right, i've had constant problems with the brakes and handling and i've always regretted not getting nav... i really dont like the graphite leather interior i have and really love the stone.. my car is paid for by the way and yes i will be wasting some money but hey mp3 playback and nav are worth it arent they hahaha

I actually do plan to buy the GTR if it's worth the money but i need something that i can drive for the next two years and be happy with it... why should I waitt for an '06 when again its the same car as an '05 , maybe i can get a good deal on the '05... unless '06 is going to have some new spectacular color that is worth waiting for.. sounds like there are really zero deltas for major options between '05 and '06...
