Thermal Images of Coupe

Hey Guys,
Had some fun with a FLIR Thermal camera . I just installed the Crawford Plenum and wanted to see just how much of a heat sink it is. To me it looks like the STK air box does a pretty good job of keeping the heat away from incoming air. I wonder what a pop charger would look like?

Also it looks like it would be advantages to have venting at the fender walls. It also looks like the hood blanket really does its job.

P.S.
If anyone wonders what the Plenum change fells like, I can best describe it like this. Have you had the pleasure of having an Infiniti rental car yet? People drive the crap out of them and the computer learns and becomes optimized to getting beat on. When you get back in your car it feels slow because it is pampered. Well the Plenum makes your car feel like an Infiniti rental car.....if that makes any sense?

I hate arithmetic, speaky the engrish, and dressing myself. That's why I eat paste, and got an MBA. (...just kidding. I got a degree in philosophy. oh, wait.)

Pictures are excellent. You should make a male driver watch homoerotic imagery on his nav screen and see if you see a itty bitty red rocket in his pants along with his overused brakes with a similar camera. Or a female driver, that may be mildly interesting also. Just give 'er the ole' donkey punch, and you'll see some puckerin'.

Please elaborate on your P.S., so did you feel any extra pull or a different sound after the mod?

My quick review of the Crawford Plenum

Power:
The Plenum does not feel any different below 3500 rpm at all. However, above that it makes your car feel as if you are driving in cold weather. If you are able to tell the difference in your cars performance on a hot day versus cold, that is the difference between Crawford and Stk plenum and what the pull feels like. Nothing awe inspiring, just a little more peppy.

Sound:
But what I did notice is the car doesn't sound like it is straining any more above 3500. That is what annoyed me the most before I installed it. Now it just sounds like it wants to rev up.

Efficiency:
My gas mileage didn't change at all after the installation; I am still at 22mpg. The K&N filter and Z-tube made a 3 mpg improvement. So they have already paid for themselves.

Workmanship:
The quality of the unit I received was not perfect. It leaked coolant through one of the fittings. I tried different RTV silicones, but the leak would not seal. Finally I had to use a lot of Teflon. The problem looked like it was related to the threads in the plenum itself. However, in my opinion it is better design than the plastic unit from Kinetixs. Different thermal expansion rate between plastic and metal are not good.

Conclusion: (my opinion)
The mod is not worth the money as it does not make that much of a difference on the G35 in it’s NA form. Perhaps with FI the mod may make a big difference such as with the Vortec system. I would have rather have spent the money on the AV electronics Nav converter.
