The extra rpms and horsepower is very useful for racing, but the extra power in the midrange of the 04 is nice too. The torque curves will tell the whole story. It's like moving the lost 10 ft/lbs of the 05 from 4800 to 2500, but that will only be revealed during a dyno. If the 05 offers more torque off the line and stays flat until redline plus the better breathing, I would say the 05 is better off.
Keep in mind that the ratios as indicated for te HP in the chart will be relative to the torque ratios. Thus if there if the is more HP then there is more torque at any given RPM.

I think an interesting graph would be to do a comparison of a 03-04 with a plenum spacer versus the stock 05 6MT. I'd like to see how close the Hp graphs matched and then see how different the torque charts were.

The two cars are pretty much neck and neck as far as the horsepower curve. Only a very slight difference, the thing that gives the 05 a definitive edge, is the 04 has to shift sooner if he wants to stay within his best torque/horsepower curve, while the 05 will pull away when he shifts...then it's all downhill from there

gotta love an injen intake in an '04....ya don't run outta breath...ya just keep pulling away from the '05

The torque curve should show the same kind of trend since HP is simply a calculation of torque. The data Chaz has posted proves EXACTLY what I've been saying all year, a race between an 05 6MT and 03/04 6MT is a wash in the 1/4 mile. I've been flamed for saying this since day one. Above 110+ or so, the 05 will have the advantage. Below 100mph, it's a wash. From 0-70mph, the 03/04 should be fractionally quicker.

Like someone said earlier, power under the curve is key and HP sells cars.

+1 ON THE COMPARATIVE CHAZ!

Very interesting information. Would you have that data available in ascii or as a text file? I could slam it into excel and do (A-B) and Integrate Area Under the Curve comparisons.

When Jason at Performance Nissan put the 05MT lower plenum on his 2003 Z he dynoed very similar results. It would be interesting to see how a 04 lower plenum dynos on an 05 6MT. Would it flatten out the high end or roll off like an 04?

Such a test would isolate the effect of the variable exhaust cams, possible ECU differences or mabey even more...

I don't know what kind of file it is, it only opens in WinPEP i believe... the file is a ".001" file.

FLFire should be sending me his 05 G35 AT dyno, modded, and I can add that to the graph, which will be cool to compare.

Max power of 241 HP? Why is it so low? That seems like an awful lot of drivetrain loss to me for a rwd car. Those were Evo numbers of AWD dynos and 271 hp at the crank. I thought that rwd was supposed to have 5% drivetrain loss, so 298 hp * .95= 283 hp to the wheels??? 298 to 241 is almost a 20% loss!!

Can someone explain why there is so much drivetrain loss to me, please?
