I thought one of the issues with these was the aluminum hood - it would bend after repeated closings. I was under the impression that the prop rod was used for just that reason...
No?

That is what I heard, as well. I would love to have those dampers, but don't want any potential wrinkles in my hood.Originally Posted by GeeWillikers

Well, if they work like the ones I had on my 2000 Maxima, there won't be a need to push in order to close it. Once the hood passes the half way point, the shocks will actually suck it back, pulling it downward - all you need to do is let it shut.Originally Posted by GeeWillikers

The piece I read talked about the initial 'push' you give the hood to bring it down when it's in the full open position - understood and agree once you get past the 'suspend' into the 'pull' mode of the actuators. It's supposedly the force required to overcome the 'suspend' that causes the problem.
Supposedly the aluminum hood isn't designed to be 'pulled' closed - thus the gravity drop and prop pole. I suppose it's part of the cost of saving weight and lowering CG.
Anyway, that's what I read, and I believe it to be true - the hood is very thin and seems to be quite 'delicate' compared to other cars I've owned.
The last thing I'd want is to fold my hood or wrinkle the metal at the hinge or actuator attach point. I think that if the hood could handle it (over repeated closings) then Infiniti would have done it for us at the factory - it wouldn't have cost them that much.
Dunno about the CF - don't have one.
I personally have no trouble with the stupid pole - as cheesy as it may be to some.

I would love to have hood shocks again (max had them), but when I first looked into them, the price was outrageous (honestly, way way too much)
NV, if you don't mind, can you PM me the price you were quoted? Thanks!

Ill just post it, its was cheap. I saw the GB for the TS one and it was like 380.00 these were 99.00 shipped. I also dont see how this would screw up your hood. The shock hooks to the bracket and that is a THICK part.
