Tint Question?

Try tintdude.com's message boards. You'll learn more about tint than you'll ever want to know. Diamond tint has a lifetime warranty against scratches (most others is just for material defects) if applied by a Diamond authorized dealer. I have Huper Optik which is ceramic based and offers greater heat rejection but is not as dark as some people like (30% is the lowest they make which is fine by me since it keeps me legal). Huper is very popular in Flroida especially with the Florida G35 Club. Formula One is another premium tint and comes in several levels (Premium, Ultimate and Pinnacle). Premium is metalic based (sputtered), Ultimate is dyed and Pinnacle is ceramic (I think).
Anyway, my point is that not all tint is the same. Some will fade very quickly while others won't ever fade (not discernably anyway) and others have different shading and heat rejection qualities.
Good luck in your hunt

another lesson i learned the hard way is that the tints offered by the manufacturers using the visible light transmission percent (e.g. 5%, 15%, 20%, 35%, 50%) is only an estimate.
for example, "madico charcool 20" has an actual VLT of 17% whereas "suntek hp 20" has a VLT of 22%. the result is that suntek's hp 20 is almost 30% lighter than madico's charcool 20. that makes a big difference in the appearance of the car especially in direct sunlight.
the dinger is that if you are unhappy about the shade of your tint, it will cost _more_ to replace it because you will be charged for removing the old tint. so, do your research and when asking a fellow driver what percentage tint he has on his car also ask for the brand so you can accurately determine the VLT of the tint you want.

If the film you're getting isn't Llumar, SolarGard, Huper Optik, Formula One, Madico, 3M or Sun Gard then don't put it on your car. I had MoonRaker tints on my car before I got my tints redone with Llumar. It wasn't the look I really wanted because it was reflective during the day and dark at night. The tints were supposedly 20% but looked much lighter at night time. Llumar looks soooooo much better on my car since it's black/black.

I'm pretty sure I had Moonraker on my BMW. It was reflective during the day, dark at night, but it certainly wasn't as dark as I would have expected it to be at 30%. Plus, the installer did a crappy job installing it, and when I brought it back to be fixed a few days later they wanted me to leave my car there all day and PT it back home. I plan on putting Huper Optik on the G in the near future. Llumar and 3M are also top notch.

BTW if you're going to retint your car, save yourself some money. MoonRaker comes right off... and I mean literally.. I could've saved myself 60 dollars but didn't know until the guy was just peeling it off without much trouble.
Where did you get your tints done and for how much?

The LLumar film I have is now a true 20% how it should be. Also it seems like it's a bit thinner than MoonRaker and rejects more heat. The type I got is the ATR series which is dyed/metallized so it's slightly reflective.
