Just got my new G!

Finally took delivery of my new DG/G 6MT Nav/Aero/Prem G35 Coupe last night. Got a call from the dealer the day before saying my car arrived early (ETA was July 1), and was ready to pickup. I was able to do all the paperwork and trade my old car in right there and drive home with my new G that same night. I thought it would take a few days to do all that, so I wasn't actually expecting to drive home in my new car last night. What a rush though. I could barely sleep last night I was so excited.

Great car - certainly lives up to all of its positive publicity. Drives really nice, and I love the NAV system. I never actually even sat in a G35 before buying it - I just read about it and new I'd love it. I had driven my uncle's 350Z though, and I must say the G35C feels VERY similar.

No car is perfect however, and buying a car 'blind' like this brings out certain surprises that I didn't expect. Here are my only complaints/surprises with the car:

- The trunk space is much smaller than I though it would be. My Contour's trunk (my previous daily driver) was like 4 times the size.
- The NAV system's joystick system is a PITA. A touch screen would be SO much better.
- The ride is a lot firmer than I thought it would be - its almost as firm as the 350Z. I thought it would be more 'luxury' tuned. This doesn't bother me as I like a firm ride and I love the handling. Just an unexpected.
- Road noise is more than I thought.
- Interior doesn't have that solid feel to it like BMW, Mercedes, and Acura has. It doesn't rattle, but its not completely silent either.

Everything else about the car is damn near perfect. Great car overall. And this is after only 1 drive and only 40 miles on the clock now.

Thanks to Arnold at Riverside Infiniti for a nice sales and delivery experience.

Re: Just got my new G!

Congrats dude...a Z06 driver getting a G is definitely a testament to this car's appeal.

Re: Just got my new G!

Foremost, congrats on your new car!
I too just picked up my new G last week, and I'm loving it.

The trunk space is small, but then again I didn't get the G becouse it had loads of trunk space.
I can't say anything about the nav system, becouse I opted not to get it.
The ride is very well balanced for the kind of car it is a luxury / sports car, compared to that of lets say an M3 (E46).
Road noise is about where it should be with such a car.
As for the "interiors feel" the Infiniti is very well structured and designed. I agree that some of the buttons and whatnot do feel a little cheap when compared to a Bimmer or Benz, but the dash, panels and everything else is very solid in the car. In fact I also own a 2002 325ci and quite honestly the feel of everything in that car isn't as luxurious as it is in the G35. Granted instead of the burlwood dash you have fake a aluminum one in the G, but then again I prefer the fake aluminum over any wooden dash. The leather in the bimmer is also not as plush as the G35's.

I was almost going to buy another M3, but after owning a 95 M3 and currently onwing a 325ci, I was sick of that body, and wanted something different, not to mention the M3 I wanted was coming to almost $14k over the OUT THE DOOR price of my G35.

I believe I made a good choice.

PS: I was also in ther market for a Z06 at one time, but it just didnt work out. Sticker on the car was like $52k and change, I found a guy who had a black one and he wanted what he said was dealer invoice for it which came out to $47k, I took that price to my local dealer who had a yellow one in stock, but he wouldn't even match the price becous as he put it, teh yellow one was more in deman and it was $750 more becouse of teh color, so I offered him $48k and not a penny more (fare amount), he thought about it for a whole 2min and said he wouldn't budge from $49,500. at which point I got up and left. He's was trying to nicle and dime me and ultimately lost the sale. The car is still there if anyone wants it, Robert Chev - NY.

Re: Just got my new G!

Congrats man!!!! I'm still awaiting mine, I noticed your plates said it was from Riverside Infiniti, that is where I ordered mine from! How did you like their service? Also my eta is July 11th, so roughly 10 days after yours. What day did you say you got that call from ur dealer? I'm so anxious right now....the most recent status was it was still on the boat, but I'm not sure if I believe that status, I think it has docked and maybe clearing with customs as we speak. Any day now....I hope!

Re: Just got my new G!

Congrats man. I too picked up my car this week (OB/Graph/Prem/Nav/Aero).
I have an MR2 so the trunk space is about even. As long as my golf bags or snowboard fit in it, i don't care.Ride is a little softer than the MR2 so I can't complain there either.

I love both my cars, but I can see that I favor the G more now...i guess the novelty will wear off soon.

Mike.

Re: Just got my new G!

The bimmer interior might have a higher quality to it but doesn't anyone think it looks a little boring? It's not edgy looking imho..

Re: Just got my new G!

Thanks for all the congrats. Took it for some more driving today, and some more observations (all positive ) :

- This thing handles great. Corners very flat, always composed. Steering feel damned near perfect. They definitely targeted the Germans for the steering.

- I love the shifter and the tranny. I don't know what people were complaining about the shifter being too notchy. Doesn't feel notchy to me. Nice and smooth. Much better shifter feel than my Z06, which IS notchy. I am getting a bit of clutch chatter on take-off from a stop, but I'm assuming its because the clutch is new and not broken in yet. Should go away I think once it breaks in.

- This engine is fantastic! Its so damned smooth, I keep having to look at the tach to find what RPM I'm at. It loves to rev, and you just don't feel it.

- Love the exhaust sound - I've already got in the habit of driving with the windows down and the radio off just to hear the exhaust. I know, I'm a sick motor head, what can I say.

Yes, Riverside Infiniti is where I bought mine from. It was a Q order placed in April. Was told it would be a 7/1 arrival, but the dealer did tell me he has been getting them in several weeks early, without notice (i.e. the truck just shows up with the cars unannounced). Very good service and nice facilities (its a newly built dealership). I leased mine, and was new to leasing, and they took the time to answer all my leasing questions and were very honest and no tricks. I've had really bad experiences with a lot of car dealers lately, so this was a relief to have a positive sales experience for a change.

I got my call from the dealer on 6/18, and picked it up 6/19. He said it arrived at the dealership on 6/17. I haven't looked at the build date yet, but I'm assuming it was early May. So mine arrived a bit more than 2 weeks ahead of schedule. So yours should be here next week or the week after that. Hang in there - its worth the wait!

Just about to get my new G

I spoke with ARnold tonight at the Riverside Dealership....in fact I drove the desert platinum 6MT they have in stock just now. Bill is a new guy there and he was very accomodating. My BS 6MT prem/nav/aero will be here in probably four weeks or so. ETA is august, but that is all I know for now. Now the waiting will be even more difficult since I actually know what to expect from first-hand experience.

VERY IMPRESSED with the test drive. Clutch was a bit firm and notchy (IMO), but it'll just take a little getting used to. Brembo's stopped on a dime, exhaust sounds incredible. Don't know how people could go for an automatic after experiencing the complete 6MT package.

It sounds like Arnold is a popular guy.

I know exactly which car you are talking about - it was parked right next to where I took delivery of mine last nite. In fact, when I first walked out to my car from the showroom, I thought that was my car first, then as I got closer I realized it was a desert platinum, and not my car. I think it had a willow interior too - nice combo. That color combo was a real close second choice for me.

BTW, I've found this car gets a lot of looks. Its funny to watch all the heads turn as they stare at the car. This car gets more attention than my Z06 does, but the C5 design has been around for 6 years now, so its more than familiar. Plus there's a bazillion C5's around SoCal. Not nearly as many G35C's, hehe.

Re: Just got my new G!

Hey I just picked up my car today. It's the mirror image of yours. I didn't even have to go on any waiting list or anything. I just kept checking the Dealers stock and made my move. I went to Advantage Infiniti in Santa Monica. My Sales person said that the car was from an order and that the person didn't qualify so the Deal fell through. His Loss MY GAIN well gotta go and CRUISE NOW....
Peace out, Nismo V35

Yep, that's the one.

You picked the right color and interior combo (IMO). Willow is nice, but graphite is nicer. True, the car gets a lot of looks...as it should. It is one fine automobile and the best bang for the buck out there right now.

Congrats on your car, DG is the most popular color in the coupe. I can't wait to join all you owners when my 6MT BS/G Prem/Nav/Aero gets here in hopefully 4 weeks or so.
