Question about 6MT shifting.

Question about 6MT shifting.
While driving normal, clutch-shift-clutch, when I shift into second I feel two notches, doesn't go right in but stops for a second half way and then goes in all the way. Is this normal? I feel it in third sometimes, but now always. Not sure how else to describe this. Hope it makes sense
Seems more noticeable if I shift faster.
This is my second manual car, so I do know how to drive it.
But who's not to say I'm driving it incorrectly, lazy clutching perhaps? 6K miles, and I think its been doing this since day one.

That's what notchy means? then yes notchy. I guess I have read many other people mentioning the same "notchy" feeling. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't because I sometimes don't completely clutch to the floor, more sorta lazy/smooth sometimes. Zero grinding of course, I'm not that lazy.

What you are feeling is normal. It's because you are trying to "shift faster".
The syncro's will do their thing, regardless of how fast you try to shift. So if you are trying to shift too fast (fast n furious style), you will feel the slight delay.
Moral: find the right timing (how fast you can shift, without a delay), and be gental

If you want your synchros to last a wee bit longer then slow you shift down. What you are feeling is the synchros doing their work.
You can time the shift so the gears just slide in place. And if you really want then treat it like a crash box and double clutch your shifts, slow but amazingly smooth.

I've slowed my shifts down, but then feels like I'm riding with my grandma and her slow shifting
BTW, the synchros should be covered up to 60K anyways right. Now that I think about it, I had to have my tranny replaced at 40K in my MT galant. Maybe that was because I would go around corners, redline it, and then drop the clutch in second. Not sure tho....

Replaced tranny? I didn't think they would do that just because of a few synchros. Maybe your main bearings and a few other pieces needed work.

Ahh... the truth is coming out. I used to lug my 96 civic si at low rpm and the main bearings gave up at 75000 km's. The shop manager wouldn't fix it at first but I had the louder voice in crowded service department. Finally he admitted seeing a few other similar cases but the owners never noticed it.
Warranty is a good thing but I hope this car won't use it. My G is not my daily driver so I like to keep it a virgin from any serious mech. work. Fingers crossed.
