Talking Day 2 with my new 05 6MT...

Yesterday I picked up a new 05 Brilliant Silver / Bone 6MT coupe with premium package. My previous car was a 1999 VW Passat V6 AT, so as you can imagine the transition has been very significant...

I'm about 250 miles into the break in period (yes, I've been driving it as much as possible), and it almost hurts every time I back off around 4k rpms... Anyway, the only complaint I have, which everyone seems to bitch about, is the REV light. Hopefully a workaround will prevail in due time.

On another note, here's something my roommate noticed while checking out my car... He noticed the VDC off button does something strange when you hold it down for an extended period of time. For example, when he was messing with it, he first turned it off, which made the light on the dash illuminate, but then he held it down again for like 15-20 seconds and the light went off. Only after he had done this the VDC button wasn't functional. Pushing the button no-longer made the light illuminate on the dash until I turned the car off and then back on again.. Anyone know anything about this? Could this be some way to completely disable any computer aided driving features?

No clue, but my guess is that VDC was on.

Probably holding the button down for that long, the car thought the switch was stuck, so it went into its switch fault condition. Which for VDC off, probably means it turned on VDC again for safety.

As for the Rev light, the 04's don't have the Rev Light. I wonder if you could do a cluster swap with an 04 to remove the telltale?

Just put your REV setting way high. Then it will never flash. It is ridiculous to even have it in this car. And it's in such a prominent spot in the gauge cluster. blah...

^^ yes... read your manual or run a search. i actually like the rev limiter. i've got is set just before redline. but u could always just turn it off. unless your talking about the REV that is always displayed. i just got used to it and don't notice it anymore.

If the G is anything like the 3-series, if you hold the vdc button for like 10s (or what bmw calls dsc I think), it will turn the traction control system off completely. A couple of buddies were talking about this just a few days ago, but I didn't pay attention. I figured if it was possible in the G somebody would have figured it out already.

Hit the trip button untill u cycle through trip A and B. Then it will display the RPM the light is set at. Hold down the trip button untill the number starts blinking. You can then push the trip button to increase the RPM setting for the light. (Mine is set at 6800). Once you are at the desired RPM, release the button and the number will continue flashing for a few seconds, then trun solid, indicating the number has been stored. You can then go back to trip A or B.

the letters "REV" will always be lit up but a small amber light under the "REV" comes on at the set point.

Somone who has already broken in their G35 should test out my roommate's discovery... Perhaps he stumbled upon something cool. I'd test it myself but i still haven't hit 300 miles yet...
