Let me ask you this. If they are so bad why do you see them on high end cars? It was because of cost's.

From one of the youngest & oldest G/35 gear heads (I think Randy has the youngest) The 2005 brakes work well, I just was disappointed that the Brembo" Couldn't have been an option in 2005. So we decided to upgrade to a BBK. My little helper in the pic is my 10 year old son Dusty. The deal is when He turns 16 he gets the G/35, Dusty wanted me to post this picture because he has helped on all installs. Tein CS & Vortech install next.

Why would they be discontinued for cost reasons on the G35 and not on the less expensive Z? Regardless of cost, brembos could have always been made an option at an additional price.
maybe due to the anniversary edition, maybe due to the sports car nature of the 350 vs the lux car appeal of the G, maybe sales of the G were meeting or exceeding expectations and it was determined that the brembos were no longer needed to maintain sales of the 6 spd G.

the less expensive Z?
Check your figures, 3 of the Z models have a base price above the G. Including the anniv edition with the brembos.

If it was due to wear issues, why are they still being offered on the (more expensive) 350s?

We have 2 Gs so i have experience driving both the stock and brembo brakes regularly. Don't get me wrong, the stock nissan brakes are very good. But to imply that the brembos are inferior to the stock nissan brakes is just flat wrong.

From a base perspective your statement is true, but look at typically equipped cars and let's exclude nav and sirus radio on both cars to get some idea what typically optioned cars cost. On the Zs there are only low prices options available which will at best add a few hundred dollars to the base cost. I'm certain that the vast majority of G35Cs have the premium package which puts its price up to $36,410 without the aero package and makes it just a few hundred dollars less expensive than the most expensive Z, the Anniversary edition, and more expensive than all the other Zs.

I didn't explicitly or implicitly suggest that brembos are inferior to stock Nissan brakes. I merely questioned the assertion that they were eliminated because of cost. For the sake of argument lets say that the brembos would add $300 to the price of a G35, thereby raising the price of the typical G from $36.4 to $36.7. Are you telling me that small % price differance is going to hurt the sale of the G35C?

I have no idea why the brembos were eliminated, bit it doesn't make sense to me that price was the primary reason.

Wouldn't give up my Brembos for the world! Dealer offered me a loaded '05 w/nav (i don't currently have nav) for almost no out of pocket expense, and I turned it down...but I do love the wheels...so I bought a set.

well, my guess (and this is just my guess) is that the brembo set up through brembo may actually cost nissan much more than just a couple hundred more than the stock nissan brake set up, especially since brembo is a very well known racing name brand.

I suspect somewhere along the line, a bean counter at nissan said, "look we don't have to offer brembo brakes on the 6mt coupes to encourage sales anymore. Brembo just jacked the price on us and we could put the new stock brakes on there, even raise our base price a little, and still sell just as many 6mt coupes. Lets offer them on the special anniversary ed 350s, since the projected sales for that car are less."

Honesty, i would have to agree with them, if that is in fact the case.

I love my Brembos. I have 34,000 miles on the car and never changed the pads yet. They still have plenty of life on them.

We can always follow the lead of one of our other members that painted the 05 stock break calip... and wrote INFINITI or something on there. You get the look, and the cheap-o-ness! =)

Until we hear something officially from Nissan, you guess is as good as any. If they did what you suspect it's a risky strategy. Let's suppose for example that you owned a business and produced a product that sold well and had a great profit margin. I think you would be very reluctant to change anything about the product since it's so successful, and a change could potentially hurt sales. A sound business strategy is don't fix it if it ain't broke.

As for the costs, as I said I'm just guessing but I expect I'm in the ballpark with respect to the price differance. There are two costs to consider: installation and product. I assume installation will be the same, and the product is tough to calculate since we neither know the price Nissan pays for its current brakes nor what Brembo charges. Sure I know what it will cost me to buy Brembos but I imagine that when you order 100K+ brakes, Brembo cuts Nissan a nice deal. So if Nisan pays any more than 30% of retail, I'd be astounded.
