Hey papagz.
Don't sweat it. You WILL get the service and repair you deserve. It takes a bit of patience. Be sure to be in the car when they test drive it. If they blame your exhaust mod then ask them how it affect the transmission. Challenge them on technical terms.
How old are you? Curious because you mentioned about bringing your dad to the fight.
I know that some dealers treat the customers differently because of age. And their level of service sometimes depends on how you bring the problem to their attention.
Befriend your service people and they will take care of your car.
Find a good dealer and show your face at that garage as often as you can. Do all your minor and major service there so they have a history of your car. An oil change at my dealer costs as little as anywhere else so I don't bother shopping for a cheaper price or try to save $10 of labour by changing my own.
Speed shifting can wear out your synchros quicker than normal. But the most abused shifts are from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3. 4 to 5 is an uncommon wear issue. Proper and smooth power shifting actually does the least damage to the powertrain but only semi truckers have a real need to do this.
good luck

im 18...so ya that made a pretty big deal I bet. (he didnt buy the car for me) I bought it used so I can afford it. I would go to that dealer for all my service and everything, BUT I am in the automotive industry and my shop can take care of it myself. Oil changes, tires, brakes, suspension work, alignments, etc. anything that can be worked on, my shop can do. so that kinda wont work out too well, since i dont pay for any of those...and for the speed shifting and wearing out the synchros, i would DEF understand if it was 2,3,4 shifting, but 5th? not common. so gotta be the tranny in my view

Wow! 18 and you have a G! I envy you. Looks like the dealer is brushing you off because of your age. Fifth gear grind just does not happen out of abuse. Other members of this board got their tranny replaced just because of this.
Why is warranty work so hard to pull? Don't they get paid by infiniti for this kind of work? Any dealer guys here?
How about getting your shop manager to talk to those monkeys at the dealer? Or bring your father to do the talking next time.
good luck

haha, i work hard. My dad kinda owns the Co. so he knows about cars too. (to a certain point) and after i blew up on the guy, my dad tried to calmly talk to him and explain how that didnt sound right. But the guy refused to believe him, and my dad got aggrivated, but still kept his cool. the guy was a *****. So the engineer is here or something, and I have to meet with him on thur or friday. they want one hour with the car. Ill make sure im there the WHOLE time. I dont want them doing some BS while im not there. ANd yes, its so weird, they do get paid by infiniti to do warranty work, BUT not as much as they would charge and get paid if I were to pay it myself. FREAKING hate the dealer.
My car did the exact same thing when I bought it (used) and just brought it in to the Dealer and they replaced the whole tranny (no questions asked).
I suggest grea$ing up the guy that makes the call (service rep).
Worked for me! Now I get pretty much anything I want.

First time i went there, I was treated like crap. I got sarcastic remarks from the service advisor, and I complained about him. From then on, its been like this. NEVER GO TO SANTA MONICA INFINITI!!
Far as I can tell from my experience, you can only upshift as quickly as the engine's RPMS can come down to match the transmission speed and you can only downshift as quickly as you can blip the RPM to match the transmission. They are full of $hit.

As I posted earlier, the Dealer couldn't care less if he's paid by the customer or by Infiniti. Now of course Infiniti will deny coverage if there is strong evidence of abuse, but I don't know how that could be determined without tearing the tranny down.
