Folding Hardtop Convertible G35

Is coming in 07 according to the guy i know at my dealer. I know most of you pass dealer info off as nonsense most of the time but i believe this guy. He said that Nissan has confirmed to them that there will be a Folding Hardtop Convertible probably mid 07.

Also said that the GTR will be under Infiniti's name and that they already have three deposits for it at their dealership... So if some of you are planning on upgrading to the GTR (lucky SOB's) you may want to put your deposit in now if you want one of the first ones.

just passing on the info... up to you if you want to believe it or not.

wow, a convertible hardtop G? I wonder how that will work, and what they will do with the back to allow for the top to fold down. I hope it doesnt turn out like the Z convertible. Unless Infiniti can suprise us with a very attractive and innovative design I am going to stick with my coupe.

I WANT A GTR....grrrr, cant afford it. Maybe I can sell myself on main street . Just Kidding

Dealers are the KING of rumors! Its their business to be! The fact that people leave deposits for cars that aren't even out or known to exist is statement to it. Walk into ANY dealerships, regardless of the manufacturer and ask them if they're going to come out with a new version of something they have on the showroom floor and if you state that you're willing to leave a deposit for one, they'll tell you EXACTLY what you want to hear! I don't doub't the GTR will hit the US market at one time or the other, but NO dealer will turn down a deposit for one, if you insist on leaving one. Heck, my friend with the yellow Porsche GT (paid $480,000 cash for it) who just picked it up this summer left a $50K deposit for it THREE YEARS AGO when it was nothing but a drawing on paper and the specs we're no more than one paragraph long. A convertible G35, well that would be nice, and its not too far fetched, but don't fall for what you hear from a dealer. If that was the case, the 05 G35 Coupe's were supposed to be all wheel drive with 350hp (rumors from dealers from back in 2003)...

On the flip side, if you really want a convertible G35 Coupe, it'll cost you roughly $15K for a retractable soft top, or $19K for a removable hard to fab it up that way. The guys over at Custom Carriege Works are infamous for creating one of a kind custom convertible cars. In fact many of the big auto manufacturers go to them when they want to turn a non-convertible car into a convertible. As far as I can remember they have been in business for a LONG time and they do top-notch work, but it comes at a price! So for those of you who want a conv G35, it'll ONLY set ya back around $15K...

If I hit the lotto, I'll do it just to be the first....

Making the G a hardtop covertible would require a total redesign. The roof is just too big and the trunk too short as it stands right now.

Dealers get absolutely NO inside information from Infiniti/Nissan or anyone. If there is anyone who gets inside information first, its online.

My experience is that we know far more than the dealers. The vast majority of car sales people are not car enthusiasts. They could be selling shoes as far as they are concerned. Also, they exist in the present. These guys are on 100% commission, so what happens a year or two from now means nothing to them since hopefully they will have found a better job by then.

don't know if this was dicussed before, but modernracer.com has some pics of a g35 roadster and a g35 wagon. i'm not sure how to post pics but here is the link

http://modernracer.com/spyshots/spyshots2.html

however it must be really old pic because it claims that it is going to be released in early 2006, which i highly doubt.

Convertible will in fact be out in 2006 as 2007 model

I am also of the rule, I'll believe it when I see it, but it is also confirmed from the head office in Nissan Canada over here ... I spoke with the guys from my local dealership, and someone that I know very well at Nissan Canada in Toronto usually comes down to Montreal once in a while to do the usual PR stuff to the Infiniti guys, and he did confirm to them that a convertible model is being designed, and will in fact be released in 2006 as a 2007 model...

I'll try to find the guy's number and give him a call in Toronto at the head office to get more details. One thing is for sure, he doesn't BS. When I owned my modified 300 ZX SMZ, he told me to forget about trading up for a 350Z and wait for Infiniti to release their new sports coupe. I laughed at him, telling him there is no way in hell Infiniti could come out with a hotter sports coupe/car than the 350z. When I put my 300 ZX up for sale, it was to buy a 350z.

Bam, it happened, the G35 came out just like he said it would, and he was right, it did look hot, so much so that I surprised myself and bought it over the 350Z.

So I guess we'll have to wait and see, but so far, all the unconfirmed rumors as well as confirmed executive management statements have pointed to a 2007 model (on sale in 2006)....

I would doubt it will be a hardtop though, since there isn't a lot of room back there for one to fold up, so my guess would be a soft top, but I think the G would lose a lot of sex appeal with a soft top cutting it's modern roof line..

Will repost if I get more news from the guy over at Nissan Canada head office...

Neil
