I would just wain on an 07 redesigned model.. There will always be something out there that you wish you had. In 07, it will be much easier to resell an 05 AT than an 03 6MT- privately. There is simply a larger marget for the AT and people will go for a once owned newer model before they go for a twice owned older model. And if you get an 07, you know that you will have the newest generation/body style without major changes for at least 4 years. As of now, there is perhaps only one year left of the current generation and you will be spending money and committing to an older year model of a car that is about to be completely redone.
Just my opinion

Hey guys - I'm a 66 year old man with a modded '03 6MT. We seniors enjoy ourselves.

But No, I wouldn't buy that car. However, you might ask to see the transaction papers on the trade, and ask to speak to the previous owner. You can gain a lot from an interview, if you ask the right questions. Can't hurt. One thing, a big thing IMO, is that you wont have reclining seat backs anymore. I don't, and I miss the heck out of them.

Wow, so hardly anyone thinks it is a good idea. There are more reasons than just the fact that it is a 6MT that I want the car... it has a sunroof (which I REALLY miss from my old car), it has both the rear spoiler and factory chin spoiler (which I am going to add anyway), and it has the Brembo brakes (which I always wanted). They originally wanted $3,000 + trade and were all the way down to $1,000 + trade when I left... so I might be able to get it for just a straight trade. I drove the car yesterday and loved it... sometimes I can't believe that I have a G35 AUTOMATIC sitting in my garage.

No way I'm paying an extra $1000 for a same model car three years older than the one I'm driving - manual or not.

If I really wanted a manual I'd sell my 5AT privately and then roll the money into the car I wanted.

Mileage, grannies, etc, would mean nothing to me - I would never buy a used 6-speed, especially when they want more money PLUS my car.

It may have been $40K new, but in a month or so it'll be three model years old. They should be paying YOU money.

I looked up Kelly Blue Book Value on this car and it is $33,680. That is more than the STICKER price of the car I am driving. These cars hold their value REALLY well, so even if it is two years old, why should I worry about selling it again? The point is to keep it for a long time... and if I'm already having doubts about my transmission choice a month into the purchase, shouldn't I get out now?

It sounds like you really want to make the trade so go ahead and do it. It's your choice. Why do you care what anyone else thinks?

As long as your ok with the interior and the everything else than go for it. You still have a lot of warranty left, and if there were any problems you can have them addressed. Personally asking for 1g+ I wouldn't accept, and if you can sell the g35 auto I would do it privately and see how much a brand new would cost. Best of luck

Wow, an '03 is possibly nearly 3 yrs old! and they want another $1k from you. That doesn't sound good at all to me.
I say don't do it......Go for a new one and spend the few extra $$$$.

The reason I would consider a trade is becuase I would end up saving a bunch in sales tax. In Kansas you can only get a tax break if you trade your current car into the dealer; if you sell it privately then you are out of luck... which means I would be paying close to $5,000 in tax in the past two months!!

A lot of you have made good points about trying to get a new '05 6MT, maybe with just the sunroof and not the premium package. That is all I want anyway... I don't really care about navigation, dual-zone climate, etc. I also love the interior of the '05s and the 19" wheels (which I was already trying to find a used set on eBay).

Thanks for smacking me into shape, everyone. This is the kind of stuff I needed to hear.

Many, many years ago I saw a super ad for a used Vette in AutoWeek. It went something like this: Two year old Vette, 435HP, 3400 miles on odometer, driven only on Sundays, a 1/4 mile at a time.

i think you can get an 03 6mt for under 30k easily but personally id stick with the 05AT and wait till 06's come out to get the 6mt 06 or a used 05 6mt.

Anything is possible, but I highly doubt that any sane dealer would roll back an odometer. The penalties are just too draconian.
