My new Coupe....Grounded. Anyone seen this?

Anyone heard of this yet? In my relatively new '05 coupe with a whopping 9700 miles.

I was on my way back to work after lunch getting on the on-ramp for the interstate. All of a sudden I felt like I was driving my old stock Civic bogging down on the downhill on-ramp. It felt like taking off in third from a stop. A quick glance at the emergency brake revealed it was not engaged. It really felt like it was on. Then the slip light started blinking and then the engine light blinking. I swear five other lights flashed at me (like the dash was throwing every f-cking warning light it could find). "OH F-CK" I said to myself as I was pulling to the shoulder of the highway. I hastily propped the hood with the oh so fancy prop rod. So there I was in my fancy coupe freshly washed on the side of the road - flashers going - with cars whipping by me. Son of a B_tch. I looked at the airbox - Clean, check the oil and coolant levels - Perfect. What the hell.

I get back in the car and start it up. No more blinking but the engine light is glowing. I work right next to the dealer where I bought the car so I creep sluggishly to the dealer. The service dept. is packed. No loaner car available. They drive me back to work.

I get a call five hours later with the news I expected. The VDC senser is bad causing the car to act as though it is constantly slipping! God Da_n. They have to replace the entire throttle-body to correct. Guess what....it is on backorder!

That's it...That is my story. Anyon seen this?

He was not sure. Said he has never seen something say back order for more than a few days. Guess I will see. I am supposed to get a loaner tomorrow if everything goes well. I suspect I will be without my car for at least a week. That Sucks.

At least it's covered under warranty. I'm sure you'd be much more pissed off if you had to pay for the parts.

Certainly would be more pissed. Got my loaner sedan today. Been a while since driving auto. Keep lifting my left foot - had it land on the brake already.

And yeah the sensor cannot be replaced separately - the entire throttle body has to be replaced.

What sucks is I am going on a trip next week and was planning on taking my coupe! Does not look like it is going to happen.

Odd, I had the same problem. I had gone to the drag strip with some guys in my club, I made a couple of runs (nothing brutal, no burnouts etc...) I got in my car to leave and the slip light flashed and it would barely even move. Once I turned the ign. off and back on it was fine except for the "service engine soon" light stayed on. I got home reset the ECU and it has been fine for the last 3K miles. Good to know about the VDC Sensor thing are there any TSB's on this? Out of curiosity were you low on gas when it happend? Thanks.

i had the same thing happen to me.. about 2 months ago, i started the car and it would accelerate extremely slow. it took about 3 mins to get it up to 45 mph.. dealer at first said it could be my brakes.. i thought they were crazy.. then they said it was the throttle control .. car drives fine now

At least nothing bad happened to you. Much better to have something back ordered than parts repainted huh?

What the freak???

You know...ppl say BMW's are not reliable...but my 04 330ci has NEVER had anything like this happen...problems include skipping cd player, window liner coming off 2x, speaker fix 3x, DRL's, squeaking seat railing but that's about it. Minor issues that were all free to fix. My dad has a 4runner which has NEVER had any problems so I expected Infiniti to be the same...being a japanese company...

Toyota and Honda actually superceed any other Japanese company's build quality. Why do you think you see so many early models civics, corrollas, camry's, accords? When I mean early model I mean 80's...

Try finding one 198x Infiniti....you might find a Nissan (Datsun) but not to many of those.

Yep, instead of getting onto the interstate, I could have been trying to dart across traffic when the engine decided to cut. That would have sucked.
I had a half tank of gas btw.

detering, did you have it fixed at the dealer?

yes, dealer fixed it. I called them up. They said they could have it towed or I could drive it in. I decided to drive it in eventhough the car was really slow since I didn't want to wait for the tow truck. Service guy said it wouldn't harm the engine. They fixed it within 1.5 hours. I wasn't too terribly upset since they fixed my car immediately. From the start of the problem to the repairs, it took about 3 hours.
